Cannondale employee vs Team staff?

I'm confused as to what the difference is and more importantly why that difference even matters.

Why was it not a great stage? A war of atrition, psychology, bluffs, attacks, drops, and 4 riders within 1min overall. So many whiny, elitist fans here, only an attack from 50k by 2nd tier niche fan favorite warrants a good stage. Its like a competition on who dislikes races the most, as if that gives you some weird street cred in this forum.

And yeah, why would an arbitrary division of the earth make any differences whatsoever in whos top 10?

And lol at the vitreol directed against Froome, take a step back, get some perspective or scurry off back to the clinic with the rest of the haters.
14 riders at the summit of Balès was apparently not good enough for their entertainment.
14 riders at the top of Bales was good. The fact four were from the same team wasn't. Nothing happening (at all) on the Peyresourde was abysmal. Nothing happening until the final 300-400m of Peyragudes was horrific. There was nothing worth watching in this stage until the last 500m. I feel like I have wasted an hour or two of my life, and that to me shows that this stage was utterly awful
This.

This is also partially on the route though. The Peyragudes is just a **** climb, and the fact that it's either attack from 8km or in the last 1.5 or so, gives way too big a chance to completely blow. The climb has seen 2 Tour's and 1 Vuelta now, all hard stages, and not one of them was good.
Peyresourde also isn't hard enough for people to commit unless a dowhill finish follows it or there is more than 2km of downhill before the last climb to recover from the effort. Peyragudes is too hard to couple with Peyresourde. An HC climb before it would provoke attacks, but that isn't possible

Watch your mouth, Jonathan.
Watch? Or wash his mouth, as Bardet surely did ;) Stickler for the rules, that one :D

Anyway, this rule definitely needs to be either judiciously enforced or scrapped. It lends itself to too many misgivings.

Similar to a Kittel stage win then !

I guess it might be Cannondale bike company vs Slipstream organisation.

What a sad, idiotic and cowardly spectacle. A few people will have a hard time sleeping tonight thinking of what-if scenarios.

Absolutly. Like Contador: "What if I had'nt.."

Yes, Contador is going to lose a lot of sleep over whether or not he could have been 10th after today's stage with a different tactic.

'What if I'd waited'
'I would've been dropped anyway'
*sleeps soundly*

Bardet's bottle in the same clip as Bennett's

That clip conveniently doesn't show him throwing it away almost immediately

Is there a rule for how long you can keep a bottle without being penalised? :D

Just joking.

Actually it does show him throwing it away without drinking from it :p

I just don't understand squat to this bottle rule... what is allowed and what isn't ?
You cannot take food or drinks from anyone within the final 20km.
Bardet threw the bottle away so I guess he didn't really "take" it.

Yeah, in theory both are illegal, in practice what Bardet did is sometimes allowed and what Uran did isn't. But it's rare too see the line marked out so meticulously. Normally they"ll either let it be or they won't.

Also, it seems somewhat particular to take a bottle after a 17° descent and not "intake" any of it. But YMMV.

The ASO -sorry, the race jury, who the ASO clearly has no influence with ;) - maybe sticking it to Vaughters a little on that one. Or maybe it was particularly egregious one by Paddy. Such is life on the road, is it not?

LottoNL has protested the time penalty, saying that Bennett didn't drink, but took the water to cool his neck, same as Bardet.

Either way, it's all a penalty or nobody a penalty. No double (french) standards

Bennett clearly drank the content.

Yes, but did he swallow?

What about pouring the water out on your head and letting the droplets fall in your mouth. Would that be a penalty? :D

He did not inhale.

So drinking the content is illegal, taking it for cooling is not.
Good to see calls for the discretionary application of common practices over the written code. Particularly when I agree with the principle and the substance.

But again, it's hardly ever applied so meticulously. I hope it sets precedent :) Or the rule is scrapped.
