Because year after year after year other teams run over each other to get podium places and stage wins

They already are on the podium even if Bardet stays away, and they have little chance of a stage win.
They have almost nothing to gain and are throwing away a better chance at the GC.

He was never particularly fast. I remember him being out-sprinted years ago, when racing for Sky.
