I think last year the Vuelta has higher performances / competition and the Giro the year before. Bernal clearly performing below last year but he might have also gone too deep trying to hang with superior riders rather than staying within himself for a potential anonymous podium Urán style. Thomas almost certainly would not have won 2018 Tour if Dumoulin and Froome hadn’t previously raced the Giro, and raced it very hard. Bernal wouldn’t have won if Froome and Dumoulin hadn’t missed the season and if Roglic and Pogacar hadn’t targeted the Vuelta. Ineos has been on significant decline for some time and now they’ve exploded.

That doesn't neglect the fact that he's showing a mutant performance. It's not like there are 50 riders left in the bunch.

If we don't only look at the main contenders who show poor form or suffer from crashes, he still has dropped 3/4 of the best teammates and climbers around. So no, it's not only because of Bernal being cooked.
just NO, if you know you dont have to ride till the end you really can put watts out, and wout has a lot of watts ; nothing "mutant about it"

Kwiatkowski wasn't winning bunch sprints. He is the most similar comparison, but I remember we were pretty stunned when we was pulling everyone up. Still, what wva is doing is a whole new level
Kwiatkowski's still been pulling with 8 guys left in the group in a week 3 mountain stage to be fair

I'm not saying mutant as clinic related but still this is nuts. And as I said, I love this rider. But it's boring for the show (shades of Us postal and sky trains, really worst part of cycling imo)

This is what you hate, setting this hard tempo that isnt super fast alá Ineos where nothing really happens.

Well, tbh this is a lot less surprising than Froome ever was, so you likely have seen things like this ;)

In terms of shock value you're right, but I cant't see Froome riding roubaix this year, the instant change in rider profiles is the surprising aspect.

Kwiatkowski had already finished 11th at the tour before becoming a Skybot though.
2013 Kwiatek was arguably the best version of Kwiatek. He was mental that year. I don't think any rider worked harder than him throughout the Tour. He was smashing it on every stage and somehow still managed to cling to the top guys on most of the mountain stages. It was insane.
