Although Team JV have a bloodied and bruised team after the first day Ineos were the biggest losers. They have been whittled down to 2 leaders and now have limited use for using Porte and TGH as decoys up the road.

Pog and Rog flexed their muscles on the final climb of day 1 in a mini show of strength so I think this is already shaping up like a 2 way battle for yellow barring any accidents of course. Plenty of other GC top 10 contenders have now already lost time which they will not get back.

I know there are rules and so on, but is there no chance of them neutralising the time gaps for the last big crash? It was such a big crash, on the first day, and so close to the finish that there was never a chance to get back on.

I hope Omi and Opi appreciated the gesture at least...

Neutralise what exactly? Take off Alaphillipe's lead, give Carapaz his 5 seconds back, give Froome a couple minute? No, none of that would be fair imo.

how did the fan decide the outcome of the race? all 4 realistic GC contenders finished together (carapaz lost 5 sec) and its not like alaphillippe is a surprising winner either

Tbf that person (they're not a fan) possibly cost the two main GC guys 2 helpers each. That's a big reduction. Jumbo could easily be down Kuss, Martin and Teunnissen cos of that idiot. Pog had Laengen and Hirschi hurt in it.

Seems harsh on so many riders to lose a lot of time on day 1 especially the second crash which happened so close to the finish. I thought the same thing as soon as it happened but I can't imagine that they will bend their own rules though.

The crash that had by far the greatest influence onthe outcome had nothing to do with any fan. The fan-caused incident in no way "decided the outcome of the race", unless you think Sutterlin was likely to win it.
It also neutralized the stage for 15k just as the action was about to start, and left a bunch of top riders like Sagan and WvA to chase back on. It didn't necessarily decide the outcome but it certainly influenced it.

Have we already talked about Haig's result and Kelderman of all people being up there on such a stage?
Yeah, very good rides by both of them, but it remains to be seen if they can keep it up.

I think it wouldn’t be unexpected to see those 2 in the top 10 of a day like today, the unexpected would be to see them both ahead of Pogacar and Thomas on gc in 2 weeks’ time.

Bling has a big head start on the other sprinters for green.

Yes, losses by Hart and Porte are really bad for Ineos as they limit their attacking options. Also Lopez lost time. Who would have thought that the first stage will prove to be so bad for some GC guys? As for Pog&Rog, it seems we are in for another duel.

Rabofail right there, Wout should have pulled with all his might for Roglic once Ala attacked. Roglic prefered to hold hands with Pogi and of course MAL and Porte lost time today...
You mean pulling all the favorites like last year. WvA wouldn't have dropped or tire anyone who is top GC, this is stage 1 and he is nowhere near the level of climbing he had last year. He didn't train climbing after his operation, only sprinting and TT.

WvA is in a free role first week, he is not doing domestique duties until after. His objective is to get the yellow after TT.

TJV's tactic was the right one given their objectives, no free rides. With most of their team affected by the crash and possibly 2 guys out. Roglic wouldn't have got anything significant and nobody would've matched Ala anyway.
