People should stop making fun of Jumbos tactics. This is still all going according to the plan of Van Aert winning the stage in a bunch sprint. They just needed a way to place Pinot in the break so AG2R would do the chasing for them.

They are riding for Gall, not O'Connor.

Gall can attack on the last climb, if they drop the gap by enough.

People in here calling DS's on both JV and AG2R "idiots" need to take a chill pill and let things play out.

Hope we see pictures from the second big group soon and see O'Connor pulling like crazy to get back into GC...that would be the level of smarts that would fit them

Again, the moment Pinot jumped, WvA had orders to kill the pace in the peloton and just let solo riders go.
He could have followed, but then he would have dragged each and everybody to the breakaway, and this would have dropped guys like Laporte, so JV would have had low numbers and no control.
In a finale with a Pogi attack and no break formed, this would have been very undesirable. They decided Benoot is good enough to have someone in the break to help out if necessary (if Pogacar goes on the last climb and Jonas is dropped / needs help to pace until the finish). They aren't counting on Benoot winning this.

AG2R may have a sponsor requirement to be in the top 10. Since many of the things they do don't make sense, Gall could have easily won the KOM jersey if he didn't have to stay in GC
