If Cavagna was as good today as he was back then, I think the gap to Pedersen would’ve been greater.
Considering Pedersen's track record in the Bessèges HTTs, I'm not so sure. Also, Pogacar was truly insane that day, not a given that either him or Vingegaard will be quite that good themselves today.

I don't know if I'm more surprised by the fact that Moscon is the fastest in the final section or that he is in this race at all. Dude's absolutely invisible so far...
Fun fact: Moscon's most recent top-10 on European soil is the 2021 edition of Paris-Roubaix he arguably should have won.

He swapped & did the climb on a road bike.

So anecdotally the road bike looks faster on the final part, but whether the top guys swap... is another matter.

they don't have the small enough gear selected on the spare bike because they know the push is allowed anyway - there is absolutely no reason for push to be necessary because of big gears on TT bike as you stated. plenty of range on the TT bike too.

If you want to be able to ride smaller gears, you need a second chainring on the bike, so yes, there is a reason.

Og course they can all just ride slower, to satisfy your weird obsession with people getting a push for 3 seconds.
