He could've got 2nd anyway, no?
Even if you're right, as I said yesterday, why didn't he work with Pogacar so that he can ensure only 4 boni gap? Not to mention gapping the likes of Yates as you never know what happens in 2 weeks (unlikely, yes, but)..
I mean about Vingegaard not working for WvA at the end

Disappointing that Vingegaard can't help a little out today on the last km. Yes, I said it.

Oh well. Disappointing winner for me personally, would rather have seen Wout or Pogacar winning, but it is what it is.
27yo French guy who has shown a lot of promises but not big results wins a tour stage with a Brilliantly times attack , robbing the conservative biggest names in the sport and winning his team a first tour stage for 15 year, its totally dissapointing. Hopefully Pigacar wins the remaining 19 stages to make up for this

Can we conclude that Pogo's wrist is fine, btw?

Form-wise the giannetti bois seem quite ok, better than last year, and pogo ominously terminator-esque.
Better than last year for sure bit they also have to be I guess. Yates looked quite weak uphill though. Großschartner also burned quickly. For all I saw Jumbo is again the strongest team so far but lets wait for the high mountains.

The AG2R hype is also over quickly. O'Connor and Gall not good enough. Which is fair. But I heard them several times mentioned to be outsiders for good GCs.
O'Connor has that anomalous good result where he got a bunch of time gifted to him in breaks. He deserved it, he was great then, but I think it artificially inflates his potential because he'll be closer marked until he loses time as a result. I think he's - at least for the time being - more a bottom end of the top 10 kind of guy if he doesn't get given freedom to gain that time, and so his 4th is more like, say, David Arroyo's 2nd in the 2010 Giro when he was usually around 10th or so, but O'Connor has perhaps a higher ceiling in that he's still got scope to improve and didn't necessarily need as much of a time gift to achieve his GC position, whereas Arroyo was already 30 when he had his surprise podium.

I wonder when people will begin calling Vingegaard "selfish Vingegaard". His angst for hitting the front is getting ridiculous.
He has no problem helping a bit out in the smaller races, but apparently Wout shouldn't expect him to lift a finger, even after what he did last year. Wouldn't have costed him anything and the rest of the team was obviously committed, but oh well.

I think the biggest fail Jumbo made today, was not letting the early 12 man break go, because Trentin was in it.

They could still have refused to pull the peloton, and that break had a greater chance of staying away across both the bonus summit and the finish line.

IMO wanting the stage win for Van Aert, is essentially what got Pogacar 8 seconds on Vingegaard.

On the other hand you cam argue that both, yesterday and today are gone for WvA if Vingegaard just rides with Pogacar.

Literally sat up twice to give Van Aert a chance.

He's literally doing anything you can ask of him, but now he's selfish? Van Aert meanwhile keeps up his tradition of losing his team leader bonus seconds.
You seriously think Vingegaard just wouldn't have done the same without Wout? Given what we know about him, he's doing really known for cooperating with Pogacar in situations like these. Its a strike once tactic like last year.
