I don't think Yates is using up much more energy than Visma's domestiques. Ineos also seem pretty worried. Even Vingegaard was pulling on the flat at one point

On Sunday Almeida can do a high tempo starting into Plateau den Beille and then Pogačar attacks anyway if he's healthy!

I don't think Yates will be more spent than Vingegaard today. And they'd easily take a trade with a ratio of 4:1 even.

IMO it's smart tactics.

Either they bring Yates back in GC, which means he can be used offensively in the mountains - or they force Visma to deplete their team today, ahead of the two big stages on the weekend.
