That was a little masterclass by UAE. This time they got it tactically completely right. When Yates attacked there were two possibilities: he could win the stage himself, or Pogacar could bridge the gap on the final steep part. Teams often make plans like that, but they're rarely executed so well. This was Pogacar's most impressive Tour stage in three years. Especially the fact that he kept gaining time on the gentler part must have boosted his confidence.

At the same time I feel sorry for Ben Healy. He would deserve to win a stage, but the breakaway didn't get any leeway.

The guy with the chip bag should be punished. He should have taken paprika instead of salt.:unamused:

Agreed. It’s hard to gauge given the injuries to riders. There’s no doubt Tadej is in terrific form, maybe the best form of any rider in this generation. It’s entirely possible, maybe likely, that part of the reason is that the new training methods suit him better.

I don’t conclude from that that San Millán is a “fraud.” Not sure why anyone would.
Zone 2 is not some magical cure all, nor did San Milan invent it; he launched his public persona based on claiming it and over selling the research to out of shape age groupers who don't enjoy vo2 intervals. So that makes him a bit of a fraud, but no more than the rest of the blogosphere of men's health/fitness influencers.

One of the interesting advances in training comes from Tadej's trainer, Iñigo San Millán. His zone 2 training technique has had obvious consequences for Tadej's career. David Millar has discussed San Milln's training techniques. He said he was in the best shape of his life after using them.

Competitive and recreational athletes have had great success with it.

You make good points.

Yet…the fact that Nils Pollit was leading the group over the climb…feels like rinse and repeat. Seen this movie before.

You forget it was Politt against Quinn and Politt took 15 seconds on the Tourmalet. the break was lazy and should have rotated turns at the front.

Politt has been there on Grand Colombier the year Pinot won on top.

He's always been a decent climber. Not excellent, but certainly one that can push himself.

I want to know what happened... to the actual packet of crisps.

Did he throw all of them at the riders? What flavor were they? Did any rider stop to actually eat them? Is that why Evenepoel lost more time at the end?

So many questions.

It looked like a light-blue Lays bag which would be salt and vinegar I think? Would be fitting.

We only saw him throw it at both Pog and Vinge on camera, but he might have thrown it on others.

He is a helmet.

I wonder what kind of crime throwing chips at people actually is, though. And is it punished harder if you‘re in a bike race?
