And because it's the Tour, the breakaway riders are usually big name riders too. As much as I love the Giro, having Davide Bais, Simone Petilli and Karel Vacek fighting it out for the stage is just not quite the same as Simon Yates, Jai Hindley and Richard Carapaz.

True. Paradoxically, there have been TdF's where the opposite was the case - almost no stages had the GC contenders fighting for the stage win.

I don't think Pogačar will break today but someone else in the top10 can blow up with this Visma pace.

the pace visma sets is not really high only the same pace basicly as the two red bull riders alone not that high pace its more the constant effort in the heath part if thats thats hot I think is vismas goal. 30grades sounds hot to me

This IS a hard pace so early, definitely. Look at the peloton

Maybe with the heat it makes some sense as Pog had struggled occasionally in the heat, but if visma drive hard when Jorgenson swings off its likely he still has Pog, Almeida, Yates and Soler in his wheel. And then what?
