I' ve read that in the past he had trouble getting good results also because he lacked confidence/mental strength. I wonder, seeing his state after the stage, if this is going to have negative consequences for him more mentally than physically.
They pretty much dodge each other all year too so he might not get a chance to see how he is going vs Pogacar next year until the tour

A procession would be sitting on wheels of second and third, no? You honor the sport by racing the stage. Merckx and Hinault raced this way
Very different environment when it comes to sport and entertainment now than it was 40-50 years ago. Cycling clearly has an eye on a more casual audience (hence the Netflix series) like F1 did. F1 suffered to capitalise that more than it did cos of Max and RB's dominance (this season is a lot more competitive at least). Cycling is even less friendly for casuals so having it be Pogacar turns up, he wins, is a bit damaging imo (same for the classics with what VdP does).

It's probably been one of the worst seasons for competitiveness i've seen and i'm watching it nearly 30 years. At least even in the Lance years, it was just the Tour, not multiple races being shat on by 2 riders.

He came back from near death to be second best in the Tour. I think he'll be fine mentally and physically going forward.

Agreed. This is where I am.

As a fan you like to see the wealth spread a bit. It's one of the best things about cycling.

This was CLEARLY a very insecure performance.

I won't be surprised if he goes in a breakaway tomorrow just to win KOM too.

I you were Pog you would give up the queen stage win to the team that's smashed your dreams two years in a row?

There is nothing insecure about wanting to win. No one is on top forever.

Unbeatable.

This is exactly what I mean. He's won TONS in the last 2 years, including what, 5 or 6 TdF stages alone? It's okay to get beat sometimes. Winning the GC and 3 stages again is enough. This just feels personal and insecure. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he won the next two stages.
