Vingegaard said or was it his trainer that they had not been able to train on the explosive. they had to make choices. this is also the reason why Vingegaard kept losing meter by meter in the uphill bends. I think it looks good uphill. but on the flat and downhill it seems like it doesn't have enough power yet. you saw this after the real descent of the galibier where he lost a lot of time.I think Vingegaard will be fine tomorrow, but i'm concerned with the setup ITT of Visma. I hope they improved the equipment.
It's not a flat ITT. And the descent is not one where Evenepoel will gain any time, to put it that way. I get the steep part of the hill to 1.3 km at ~6.9 %.Fully expect Jorgenson to catch Gall though.
I would honestly be shocked if anyone other than Remco won. I think that if anyone might be able to do it, it's Pogacar, but let's not overrate Pogacar in flat TTs too much. Ganna pretty much had his number on the flat during the Giro and I think Remco is at least on that level. He has looked phenomenal so far so I would be surprised by anything but a brilliant TT from him.
Is it a technical descent with twists and turns? It's not a flat ITT. And the descent is not one where Evenepoel will gain any time, to put it that way. I get the steep part of the hill to 1.3 km at ~6.9 %.
Many high speed bends. Not the biggest road either. Is it a technical descent with twists and turns?
Well 1. a TT with one 1.3 km at 7% hill is pretty much a flat TT and 2. Evenepoel isn't Ganna either. I wouldn't expect a rider climbing as well as Evenepoel to lose much time there. The descent worried me initially but I think it's not overly technical, right? It's not a flat ITT. And the descent is not one where Evenepoel will gain any time, to put it that way. Remco can lose time there if he is too scared for fast descending. Many high speed bends. Not the biggest road either.

It's flat like the first part of the second Giro ITT where Pogi was faster than Ganna.Well 1. a TT with one 1.3 km at 7% hill is pretty much a flat TT and 2. Evenepoel isn't Ganna either. It looks a bit dangerous and very technical. Many high speed bends. Not the biggest road either.

It's named after St George's nights. Does that make it better? Is this town named after St. George's nuts?

Couldn't be better for Rogla. The ITT looks interesting based on a few profiles which make it look punchy & technical, but I won't get my hopes up.
Did St George have a beautiful wife to spend those nights with? If so, would this have impeded him a lot in undulating time trials like this one? It's named after St George's nights. Does that make it better?
Pog and Jonas will attack in the high mountains. That's what they do.If Gouvenou didn't Gouvenou, this stage would be far more important as it would be a proper length TT.
End of first week ITTs should be at least 50 kms
So what if Remco would go full Indurain at Luxembourg or Ullrich in the MTT in 1997. The Pog would have to attack in the high mountains and we'd see a better TDF
What about Ayuso ? He won already 3 TT and is also in great form, as we could see on Galibier. Maybe able to finish third or fourth. Almeida is also a good TT-rider, a bit less than Ayuso. He did won the TT in the Tour de Suisse (but a semi-climbing TT).So finally the first TT. One of two key stages of the first week. Generally fast TT but with an uphill section in the middle. Slightly under 30 minutes of effort for top guys. No holding back, a bit above the threshold all the time.
What to expect? Remco and Wout are natural candidates for victory. Remco is obviously in great form, maybe it will be his TT? The relative performance of GC guys is the most interesting thing here. I'm expecting Teddy to have a very strong performance as well, he can be close to Remco. Those two guys should IMO put time into other GC candidates but how much? Maybe 30-40 seconds to the best of the rest (Vingo, Rogla, Ayuso?). Pogacar, who looks the strongest in this part of the race, definitely needs to gain time over Vingo and stay close to Remco as well. Should be interesting.
