In anticipation of the upcoming Tour route, I'm hoping for a mountain stage that might yield more than 2 proper HC climbs.

When was the last time we had 6000-7000m of elevation gain in a stage??

Morzine 1983, Sestrieres 1992

would love to see the alien division tackle those stages

Same article but in da English which we're supposed to post in (or we get comments from mods about, "hey! this is an english language forum and translate it now or you'll be off to the naughty step!")

Either people are being unusually very tight lipped or things are not 100% decided yet.

Maybe. We don't have any data on how the modern peloton approaches such stages as a whole though.

Most climbs are joke grinders anyway, that would be a terrible stage design these days.
One hour faster was obviously an exaggeration, but anyone interested can get a rough estimate based on average speed increase and stage duration.

Oops!...the classic Pau-Luchon was almost 50 minutes faster in 2012 compared to 1983.

Maybe I wasn't exaggerating too much.

60 minutes faster than 1983 I have absolutely 0 doubts about.

1992 I'm not sure. I guess not because if there is one thing they don't do extremely fast it's long mid stage climbs.
They've done Bonette this year 3:32 faster than in 1993, but they've done it with less W/kg thanks to lighter bikes and drafting. No Izoard as starter also helped this year.

France Bleu have been dropping a bunch of information this morning:
Restday 1 in Toulouse
Stage 11: Toulouse - Toulouse (road stage)
Stage 12: Muret - Superbagnères
Stage 13: ??? - Peyragudes
Stage 14: Auch (this one could also be on a different day) - ???

Edit: although the Hautes-Pyrenées are supposed to have a second stage as per earlier rumours, so perhaps Auch won't be stage 14.

I'm not as notorious as you Rick when it comes to moaning about routes, but these Pyrenees stages make my eyes bleed.
The first one can be pretty good given the location for start and finish. Muret to Superbagneres could mean Portet d'Aspet, Mente and Portillon or Bales before Superbagneres. It isn't great, but at fairly good compared to mountain stages in recent years. But a following stage to Peyragudes seem pretty underwhelming.

I like Superbagnères returning, it's the potential MTT up Peyragudes the next day that I gave issue with.

No massif central or vosges in the first week?

The route will be awfull and backloaded again.
Vosges would be too off-route when they start in Lille and go down the coast through Normandy and Brittany.

But they should have been able to do a couple of stages in Massif Central at the end of the first week.

Remco friendly? Lenny Martinez (the next great French hope) friendly? Keep the GC as close as possible before the Alps?

15 sprint/breakaway stages, 2 ITT, 3 GC deciding stages in the Alps and a jaunt around the Arc d'Triomphe - two aliens plus Roglic (don't forget him going all in again) plus Remco. The punters will be breaking down the doors to see that!:)
