Thanks: I can think of that now.

No, I'd rather not. A time trial for most, but with no interest once the first rider finished, and no reward or incentive for a good TTer who is not in a high position, and no stage result. No thanks.
Perhaps a 100km+ route could be good..? Preferably in a race where the gaps are much shorter, so a 1 weeker. Having top domestiques would be massive...

Anyway. Stage 19 Raid Stage (tm)?

Big gaps on Loze...? Or not. They might be doing the other side.

I don't know, Prudhomme might be desperate to keep the tension...

I'm starting to hope for a super long TT on stage 20...

A TT between that start and finish place is simply not happening, so either the rumors of that start/finish place are wrong or it's not a TT.

It would be a 3rd TT if the rumours re the other two TTs are true so would go against the recent trend. When was the last time the tour had 3TTs (excluding a prologue/TTT like 2012/2013 as the additional TT)

Imagine the scenes, though. Pogacar way ahead on his own. Remco, Jonas, Primoz, and three UAE doms TTT behind.

this route is fine if they make some of the mountain stages 220k monsters

but they wont

not with the lack of TTs

Unless stage 20 is a 60km ITT and stage 5 is a 40km ITT

But we have Thierry Gouvenou ruining the tour, so that will never happen

yeah on second thought putting the mountain TT after two mountain stages is hilariously bad.
The Pyrenees in general are completely wack. Probably not as ridiculous as in the tweet, but they'll still asterisk asterisk.

you can still have monster mountain stages with less TT. there hasn't been an actually balanced route in over a decade and we're never going to see that amount of TT at the Tour again. they're going to have to make the mountain stages harder so these psychos stop breaking Pantani records.

I wouldnt say never.

The giro returned to a classic route last year.

The issue is Gouvenou. We need a new race director. Prudhomme needs to do his job as general cycling director for ASO (that is his actual title, https://inrng.com/2024/07/the-top-job/ he oversees all cycling for ASO) and put in place good race directors, not Tweedle Dee (Gouvenou) and Tweedle Dumb (Guillen)

the Giro route was not "classic" at all, it was a travesty with barely any mountains

how long have you watched cycling for?

It was a course from 20-40 years ago. In other words, a classic course.

Classic does not mean it is the world climbing championships

yeah then sure, it was "classic" like the routes they made for Moser in the '80's that everyone agrees were a blight on the history of cycling

go look up the 1995 Giro route if you want to see "classic". 2024 had ONE mountain stage over 200k. that is a joke.

the routes could easily go back to those lengths.

We just dont need to broadcast every stage from start to finish. That is the big problem. Air the final 2 hours of the flat stages as was the case 20-25 years ago and the issue of boring flat stages goes away.
