All rules are contrived. All rules are artificially imposed to serve certain ends. In professional cycling, which exists for the purpose of selling people things by entertaining them, making things more entertaining is a central point of the rules. Problem: Greater team organisation has destroyed the entertainment value of flat stages up until the last few km. Solution: Undermine team organisation.

isn't that too much? how tall is he?andy is lighter and has 1.88m. wiggans looks like skin and bones, even more than andy. i also think that he is smaller, and skinner than conti (62kg). i mean gilbert's weight is 68kg and people keep saying how muscular he is. look at wiggans.

Just watching the RAI coverage of the stage today and there was a side presentation on the 1949 Tour which had a time trial that passed over the Mur de Bretagne that was 139 KILOMETERS LONG.

Now that's a freakin time trial!

he looks very skinny. he could top 5 i think.
I don't think he is a good enough climber to do a podium, but he should do well in the high mountains all things considered.

This is just bizarre.

The current, complex, set of rules is no more or less artificial than the set of rules I'm proposing. The current set of rules were not handed down enscribed on stone tablets. They were made up to achieve certain ends. Over the years all kinds of things have changed. Two way radios were not always present. You used to be able to have two short stages in a day. You used to be able to have much longer stages. You used to have a different balance of time trialling to climbing. Some of these changes have led to improved racing, some have had less favourable consequences. Cycling changes.

Cycling without race radios or in smaller teams is in no sense more contrived or artificial or insulting to the intelligence than cycling with race radios or in larger teams.

Teams are smart (well, some of them). They will seek the most effective way to win within the current set of rules. Sometimes they'll be so effective at it that the effect of their ingenuity is to make the racing less exciting. When that's consistently happening it's time to unravel their best laid plans.

How is the rule that a team has 9 members any less unnatural then a rule that states a team that has less riders? Thats the point you still havent replied to...

andy has about the same size and is at least 1 kg lighter. when i look at wiggans i think he weights 60kg. lol

I wasnt arguing at that point - but since you brought it up

less riders in a team, means current riders having to do more workload means more crashes due to fatigue.....these guys are not having a sunday stroll in the local park you know
