I believe Piganzoli is a better prospect than Pellizzari, at least if we're talking stage racing. Basso once said he's got comparable numbers to Mas at same age, and he can also TT when in shape.

Pellizzari is more of a long shot. W/kg are surely there but a team will need to work on many things with him. Currently I'd say he's more likely to become a stage hunter.
Milesi, Piganzoli and Garofoli was the podium in the Italian junior NC itt a few years ago.
Eolo-Kometa are doing a good job with their developmental team, Tercero also looks rock solid to me.
Fancellu's result in this race last year was the big outliner, he's just not consistent enough to be a gc rider.

Italy clearly needs to claim Riccitello because of his Sicilian heritage. Usually Athletes get the citizenship as easy as a Happy Meal even if only their dog's grandparents were Italian...

Not a bad idea! The kid was outstanding on the MTT at the Giro so it's something someone should be working on now.

Riccitello is very lucky these moves didn't come earlier.

He's super vulnerable cause he doesn't have a team. But I think his advantage will be enough to hold on today and tomorrow. Well actually, if they can drop him on Iseran tomorrw, he's probably fcked.

The Italians and Del Torro need to risk it all and go early tomorrw.

There are five or six guys outclimbing him here, the gap from first to sixth tomorrow is likely going to be bigger than his lead after this stage. He will need to be better tomorrow than he is this afternoon.

Tomorrow is probably going to be about 4 degrees and rain on top of Iseran, so staying warm will be important for some of these thin climbers.

He did waste a lot of energy at the beginning jumping to the front tho. Made a mistake. Doesn't have to be the case tomorrow.

2 hard half stages on one day also changes the dynamics a bit. That said, del Toro seems to have great recovery, that was one of my main conclusions after Valle d'Aosta.

Didn't he waste a lot of energy trying to come back after that break went up the road?

Some guys just really struggle with the double header. I remember a few years ago Gavion Mannion and Alexander Cepeda were toying with the rest in Savoie. Mannion especially was dropping minutes. Didn't get close in GC though, because they lost 6 minutes in the afternoon stage after dominating everyone in the morning prior.

He's likely going to get stuck chasing down gaps tomorrow as well. Maybe not to the extent of today but he will have to use more energy than most early on.

Of course Pescador would be the best in the chasing group, but idiot Jaramillo has him working for Pinzon again.
I can see why you'd have Pinzon as the leader before the mountains, but once the mountain stages start and Pescador is still in striking distance you allow him to attack.
