My one concern is his downhilling but I think that it is better than people make it out to be and with his bike handling skills from TT and the track i think that if he requires a very good descent he is certainly capable of one.

Downhilling is more about balls than skills imo. If the race is on the line, Wiggins will go for it, I'm convinced of that. No way he'll lose the Tour on a descent.

I am starting to think that Westra can become second literally everywhere. Even when he steps out of the race apparently ;-)
Yeah...
I just got home after being away from 16h (thus missing everything).
And then I read a guy who gave up (i had read that news) has gotten 2nd

and rabo failed in a sprint (no news there)

Rabo led out a guy who wasn't there (Sanchez) and a guy who wasn't there got 2nd (Westra). It's a sport of ghosts.

it's not like wiggins beat a field of nice sprinters in the top 10..

if we look at the others most aren't even 10th line sprinters :D

To be fair, there weren't many guys in that group you'd describe as sprinters, or even "fast".

I think that fact has been pretty much ignored. Still though it was quite the impressive performance.

I reckon most of us would have had Wiggins as about 58th best sprinter in that final group of 59.

Not with his track background. Wiggins has never shown any kind of sprint on the road, but I'd have backed him to be at least in the top 30 of that group of non-sprinters ;)

Very surprised with the result. Thought evans may have had a go, usually quite good in those groups.

Looking at the photo, he was right there as usual as always is in GT's to get same time.
