If you want to measure the level of the performance, you should standardise weight.
Still think it's somewhat misleading because many will not be aware how rider weight affects W/kg needed for a given climbing performance. Also if you standardise you have to say so and say what weight is used as a standard.

You could also measure the amount of time that the following riders are beaten by. Oh, wait...
Best Tour winners by gap to second since 1990:
1. Ullrich 1997 9:09
(2.= Armstrong 1999 7:37)
2.= Nibali 2014 7:37
(4. Armstrong 2002 7:17)
(5. Armstrong 2001 6:44)

Nibali must have been really incredible in 2014! The point is that you can take the time gaps but you can‘t extrapolate that so you know how riders would have fared who weren‘t in the race.
Sure, Evenepoel wins by huge distances usually but you can‘t automatically say he would‘ve won LBL if Pogačar didn‘t crash.

Some really uplifting performances by Bernal and Ayuso which is what I was pretty much only looking for this race. Should bode for a good second half of the season, hopefully.

By the way, Carlos Rodriguez was supposed to take part in this race - anyone have a clue what happened to him?

A team should definitely try something if their leader has a good day and a few others might have a bad day/getting sick as well, but nothing probably happens.

Even this year, I've seen Gaviria climb a lot better than he has at this race...

Looks like he'll survive today tho as Ineos isn't really trying to keep them distanced.

Gaviria should be fav to win then.

EDIT: Looks like EF is trying a bit now but this climb isn't really long.

Don't understand why you'd wait until this climb to try and put the sprinters in trouble. Yes, EF are down to four men, but other teams might have given them a hand after the climb and even if they force the gaps now they would still be dependent on help.

Well so they succeeded dropping basically all the sprinters, but Lotto and QS have nothing to do here other than bringing their sprinters back so they should come back.

Also helps that Menten and Gaviria dropped at the exact same moment, so those teams can help each other immediately.

Yeah all sprinters are together. Will lose more time now till the descent I guess, but still more than 40km to close the gap.

EF and Ineos going full now tho.

Bahrain also working in 1st peloton. If Lotto doesn't get help from Movistar and QS they won't come back.
