Can Pogacar even hold on to Adam Yates' wheel when he's on this form? And should Yates be forced to slow down or go for his own glory?
PS: Also Yates should've waited for Almeida so they could hold hands over the line, maybe even holding a picture of Pogacar in yellow.

Adam not looking back until the end, maybe playing stupid. That was the best moment of today. No way he was going to let Almeida have his glory!!!! Lol.

Then he turned back after the finish and said " wait what, you were behind me...?"
The guy dragged his ass all the way up the climb and still manages to come back within 20 meters. I hope Almeida smokes him in the TT and takes GC.

Is the time limit still 10% tomorrow with the shortened stage? Could be hard for the sprinters.
I just read the interview with Meeus as well, but wasn't able to find an updated version of the rulebook.

The initial time limit for this stage was 15%, so it would be a bit odd if it got shortened.

Yep, 65 km long and F1 start ... somebody was smoking something real strong when they came up with that.

42.5 km long and start at 15.00 CET. Why wait so long? Start 12.00 CET and be home for a cuppa at 15.00 (even the guys doing the podium stuff).

I didn't see this stage but from what I read things did not go as the race organizers had envisioned. The F1 start started out as a novel and maybe even exciting idea, but once the race actually got going the peloton organized and re-shuffled itself right back to the way it likes it, so ultimately there were no surprise winners.

Is this basically how it all went down?

It simply wasn't possible that any cycling fan thought the starting grid would make a difference

It's what happens in bureaucracy. You get people full of good intentions and innovative plans but with no experience or insight on how everyday reality works. In the end it all goes down the drain and what's left is a meme.

Quintana won the stage
