Tour de Yorkshire 2018 2.1 - 3rd of May - 6th of May

Well, it's nice to see the signs around locally for the 4th edition of the Tour de Yorkshire. It's even nicer to have the terrible roads filled in and sorted.

Stage 1 - Beverley to Doncaster. Should be a nailed on sprinters stage. Flat and pretty boring!

how to delete accounts from mint

Stage 2 - Barnsley to Ilkley. Some interesting lumps in this one. GvA FTW? Will be nice to see some attacks on Old Pool Bank with a descent into Otley, then back roads of Otley to ilkley riders could easily stay away. I was on Old Pool bank the other day and saw JTL on it.

In terms of the Women, I would love to see Hannah Barnes have a go on this one, IIRC It's her birthday too!

Stage 3 - Richmond to Scarbrough. This should be another sprinters stage? Although it gets windy near the coast. Sutton Bank is a beast but it's early enough not to cause too many issues.

Stage 4 - Halifax to Leeds. A real brute. This is going to hurt. Climbs like Park Rash certainly tickle that's for sure. Then over the top the moors are exposed. If the wind is what its like been last few days that could hurt too. I should think someone like GvA or Pauwels to be in for this one.

Now I've never started a race thread and I certainly don't have the knowledge some have on here so apologies if it's not upto the normal standards!

I am looking forward to seeing the Yorkshire contingent having a go. Pete Williams in the break and always giving it some and never failing to stick it to the WT riders. I expect to see him going for the break on Stage 4 for deffo. On his local training roads.

I am also expecially interested how Tom Pidcock does. He has just won the Klondike race in Cleaveland. Out sprinting another local Tom Moses. Another lumpy race so he's clearly on form. Well both are.

On paper a very good route.
Hopefully Coquard can pick up a stage win here.
He definitely needs to prove that he still has it at some point. But he's facing some decent opposition in Bauhaus/Walscheid, Cav, Halvorsen and Minali. Is the stage 2 final ramp too long for Coquard?

And I'll echo fauniera and say good OP!

For the women on Ilkley Bank, looking at that Canyon lineup I'd say it's not too likely Hannah will be the team's preferred option there. The finish seems more puncheuse-oriented, 1800m at 8,2% is a bit too long for her as an actual finishing ramp I would have thought. If it was on a circuit with a run-in after that climb she'd be better suited to it, but I'd think Cecchini or Amialiusik would be more likely shouts for the team. Cecchini won the Italian nationals on Supergà but has had a quiet year, Alena has had a very strong year so far. Ryan was 5th in Amstel Gold and looked good in the break, but I think Barnes can more or less match her but pull rank on home roads/birthday count :p (Ryan is on very good form but Barnes is better rested). Cromwell is a question mark, she can compete over most terrains, but she's had a very strange calendar this year, as well. The first stage ought to be much more to Hannah's liking.

Wiggle are clearly trying to build up their season and I think they could feasibly win both stages with Kirsten Wild of course a previous winner in the one-day version of this race, and Elisa Longo Borghini one of the best climbers present, but I just have a hunch the Ilkley stage could be for Janneke Ensing, especially if a specialist sprinter wins stage 1 and not somebody who has some versatility and might fancy their chances of staying in contention on Ilkley Bank, such as one of Sunweb's team (most likely van Dijk on form, but Kirchmann is the best puncheuse of their team I think) or Chantal Blaak (I don't think Guarnier is as likely to contest a flat sprint, and Dideriksen is less likely to fancy her own chances in a hillclimb). The difficulty for Janneke could be if Marta wins stage 1, because then Alé will be charged with péloton-pacing duties. I will be interested to see how Katie Archibald fares too, she looked very strong in the Women's Tour last year, and after her track commitments hasn't done much on the road for Wiggle yet.

As for the men, it's good that we have a really nice final stage again, like last year into Sheffield, there's really the scope to make a real Classics man's stage race par excellence in Yorkshire, with a coastal windy stage, a stage of cobbled madness near Halifax and Keighley, and some Ardennes-tastic beasts around both the Leeds-Sheffield axis and the North York Moors (though clearly the likes of Sutton Bank are too far from the finish to be of much importance here). And to be fair, while a couple of stage designs don't inspire great confidence, the racing has typically been very good here which has compensated for that, so I'm going in with relative optimism.

"Harrogate has been named as the main competition town and finish location for each race."

Thanks for the link. I didn’t realize Yorkshire was that large, I thought it was a city.

Thanks to the OP. Good job.
Stage 4 is a corker. I can't decide whether to head down to the wonderful Piece Hall (surely ASO will realise the potential for this as a finishing location for a Yorkshire Cobbled Classic ... like the Strade Bianche finish into Siena) ... or to head out for a climb. Goose Eye or Park Rash (which is brutal in a car). For those that have facebook, Thomas Pidcock has given it the once over .... poor lad. https://www.facebook.com/LeTourYorkshire/videos/1795929720469981/
