Rest of the race is now cancelled, according to Ned Boulting this is as the enormous reorganisation of police resources means the race would no longer be able to secure the race route.

The GC is now frozen and the race is considered completed as a five stage race won by Gonzalo Serrano.

the issue is I believe all police leave is cancelled in these situations, and because actually alot of the motorbike resources used on the race to block roads on the route are police who on leave...if you cant then guarantee the bubble they put around the cyclists on the road racing , you are a bit stuffed trying to run a road race in that situation.

but just think if Tom hadnt stopped for his P stop on stage 1...

I lived there for 10 years and none of my UK friends would want this over the top nonsense.
If I still lived there I would now have a useless and expensive train ticket to Bournemouth and a wasted days work holiday taken.

I think we're seeing something from another age; the plans would have been drawn up 50+ years ago. There was a lengthy article in The Guardian describing what happens, which was posted on Twitter; things have changed.....In reality, it could do with scaling back - the new King doesn't need to go around the country, does he etc Just a statement on TV would suffice.

Following Twitter and the news yesterday was pretty telling. They clearly hadn't taken into account that you can't keep anything secret anymore, so we had the ridiculous situation where reporters had changed into black clothing and had to sit in studios for hours pretending they didn't know what the situation was and making up random speculation because they weren't allowed to say anything. The first I knew of it was when people were posting saying something was going on in the Commons, before anything had even been said on TV, then about 2 minutes later people were posting about Balmoral. The lack of any proper statement made it incredibly obvious.

People on freelance and casual contracts are losing work because of cancellations. I knew so many people affected by the cancellation of the Mercury Music Prize Awards last night for example. It’s the casual/freelance workers I felt for initially but then the artists who had worked so hard to get to that point had a big night of nothing. It ‘ll also affect sales as the Prize always gives a big boost.

I was working last night but decided to try out a couple of stations today.
Talksport has suddenly become HorseRacingTalk and Radio Ulster is mildly interesting as they have to thread a little bit more carefully.
So basically no radio for me for the next week or so.
I fear I might even have to resort to the Lanterne Rouge Cycling Podcast at some point.
