Crowds have been impressive in the cities to watch the race. I suspect this race will be around for awhile.

Just noticed it, there are a few other oddities as well, Onley for one.

Nothing wrong with Onley's time? He got 1s boni

And Vernon probably got a time penalty for drafting back after getting dropped. Only weird thing is that others didnt get it then.

Weren't they piping in some crowd noise at the start? I could swear there were a lot of cheers but none of the people actually looked like they were cheering, they looked like they were very quiet.

Crazy that a rider can be given the win in a stage in which he is ruled to have cheated. There are so many rules in this sport that seem to have been written with no thought about how they will be enacted.
If Vernon had held onto the "sticky bottle" down the finishing straight then he would have been DQ'd, but as it happened without effecting the result of the race then it's like "unsportsmanlike behaviour". But, the illegal feed rule (food & drink inside the last 20 km or so) should in theory be a DQ as it does effect the result.

edit add - the latest penalties update from the UCI - 2.6 is the interesting one in regards to the Pogi story from the Worlds -

That's the thing, I think.
You could argue that it did indeed effect the result of the race, as it helped him be in a position when he could sprint for the win.

I think Trek work for Simmons. Acording Lombardía Van Eevert is favourite, but every race is different.

Froome has said he is not worriying about his results anymore but I hope he doesnt let go at the end and try to make a decent result, working for the team or by himself. Probably he will be one of the worst of the stage, but I hope today no.

Could the break stay away?
Of course, time gaps can sometimes go down fast on climbs.

A shame the break is obviously gonna get caught.
