I thought London was located in England.

his Dad is scottish/part irish, and Tao (Tao is actually irish gaellic for Tom, which is his Dads name.) considers himself scottish, having been selected by Scotland for the Commonwealth games several times, but the Ineos schedule has never allowed him to compete.

Alright, I do get that Geoghegan is probably not the most usual English word ;)

6.2/6.3wkg for 40 minutes for Kamna, Cepeda, Hart which is a really promising level although good conditions for it.

The Englishman is only a little behind the top 2 at the Giro on the climbs I feel, and could cause a few issues with an above average kick after a long drag, as he was threatening to do in Tirreno before being launched into the barriers. The 3 tt's will be where he loses the bulk of the time to them in the end I think but a podium is on. Still think Carthy looks good for a top 5 perhaps given his recovery over 3 weeks is excellent.

Kamna is a real wildcard if he is going for GC, It's really hard to predict but he has a super high level in him somewhere.

Tao the philosopher in an interview in today's la Gazzetta dello Sport:

You went through two difficult years:

"We tend to measure everything on results, but they're not always and exclusively the things that give value to what we do. After the Giro I didn't win anything till this year, but I think I was a good companion, a good friend, a good son and, yes, also a good bike racer. I played a part in others' victories, this too is beautiful. In the last years there are fewer and fewer cyclists winning. Everything can't be bound up in just that. The level Is always getting higher. Here at the Tour of the Alpes the level is much higher than four years ago. We have to enjoy more what we've got, the places we see, the people we meet. Non of this is ever coming back."

Bravo Tao, well spoken.

This statement is very much in line with his feature on rouleur magazine!

I've read a few interview with Tao -- mostly when he's relaxed and having a beer in a pub -- and he's said similar things. But he seems really, really uptight when he puts on a professional jersey.

I find the GC talk about Kamna interesting. https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/lennard-kamna-climbs-onto-the-list-of-giro-ditalia-contenders/

I don't think he's really shown that he can compete at a GT vs a one-week stage race. That said, I think he's a great rider who can as noted above hit a really, really high level. Just not for 3 weeks, but maybe he has a Caruso 2021 Giro in him.

Looking forward to today's stage once I finish some work. Hope it isn't too badly affected by the weather.

looks like there are no changes to the stage, at least. It just started as normal.

I guess it makes sense for Kämna & Bora to try and get the pink jersey early on and defend it until Bondone and control the race instead of Quick Step & Jumbo. Then, hang onto a top 5 position maybe.

While Gall, if he keeps his shape despite the crash of course, probably is better off going for the mountain jersey and a stage win at Gran Sasso d'Italia already. Since AG2R can always send Paret-Peintre, Cherel, Prodhomme, Vendrame or even Hänninen if he rides up in the breakaway with the Austrian to pull

Yes, who can forget stage 20 of last years Giro with Kamna’s incredible turn for Hindley on the final 3km to crack Carapaz and basically win the Giro. So strong! He also won on Etna from a break.

Good to see him following that up this year. It all suggests he has a big engine.

He's a former Junior ITT WC and beat both Ganna and Cavagna in the EC u23 ITT back in the day, both wins were really dominant. He likes bad weather and prefers multi mountain stages.

There's a breakaway now: Traeen, Konrad, Pedrero, Howson, Pellizzari, O. Rodriguez, Mulueberhan, de Bod, Mühlberger, Carr, Frigo, Bouchard, Samitier.

Schachmann and Santaromita didn't start, Dainese, Buratti and Carboni already abandoned.

Carboni is such a weird rider, only seems to be in good shape in June and July (usually right after riding the Giro). Pretty much all of his top 10 results in smaller stage races in the pro ranks were in that timeframe. In the u23 ranks he was a good allrounder, top 10s on the gc in some of the bigger stage races, 2nd in a technical ITT in the italian u23 NC (7sec behind Ganna and ahead of Affini) and 10th in the u23 EC ITT (ahead of riders like Politt and Cerny, who are both older than him).

Donovan bridged to the front on the descent. He looked strong in Sicily already last week, so could be a contender for the win, if the break stays clear.

And he is from Cumbria, so as close to Scotland as it can get ;)
