lol. Why is Porte doing the Tour? Looking for a top 10 in the itt stage or hoping to get a stage in a breakaway?

I totaly dont understand why it would start on August 23rd

If they want to start it then then its a ban of 1 year and 1 month, not a ban of 1 year. Big difference when you consider when Vuelta starts.

Look it up, he did an interview with someone ( I can't remember who, possibly SBS, not CTblog)where he said that's his aim and racing program.

Why wouldn't he? The Tour is the best GT for him. I think he could go top ten on GC there. Of course, you and I are on opposite ends of the spectrum regarding Porte's potential.

Gt potential. I think he can win some big classics. But gt wise, 7th at the Giro is as good as its going to get, and its never going to get that good again.

I just think finishing top 10 in your first year as a pro in a GT as tough as last year's Giro says something. Sure, he was older than your typical neo-pro but he also came to the sport much later than most.

Actually, I don't see him replicating that performance this year. I think he may struggle like so many do the year after a GT breakthrough but I believe he will be a podium contender in a couple of years after he's got 2-3 more GTs under his belt.

I guess it is possible that you're right - he could go "Cunego" and that Giro was the best he'll ever do, but I doubt it.

Agree with you on his hilly classics potential.

Well if their taking away the 2010 Tour then that means the Tour is included in the ban.

If you take the ban from date the sample is discovered, then they could have just waited till 2nd day of Paris Nice "discovered" it then and had him banned for a year untill March 2012.

That is what happened to Thomas Dekker. He was caught June 2009 on a sample from December 2007, he was banned from June 2009 till June 2011, and lost all his results from December 2007 till June 2009.

Certainly, but look at the results. He would have been top 10 even without those minutes.

Yes. Which reminds me of Ryo Hazukis comment

Without Laquilla, not even top 20. Not by a long shot

lol. That was funny. But having said that, without Laquilla he wouldnt have worn pink and he wouldnt have got the white jersey - which you could argue were his biggest achievments of the Giro.

And without Laquilla, would he have had the team backing him as strongly. Trying to keep pink and white jersey probably rallied the troops more than "lets try to get that 9th place".

i'm confident he can make a top ten even in this year's tour.

Nah leave Porte to hilly classics and nothing more... If He focus only in GT He will be really dissappointed when He cant deliver any results...

I'm not sure Porte is the best for hilly classics. It would be better to be more explosive there and I have yet to see Porte show any type of sprinting ability. His main strengths are TTing and moderate climbing so far so shorter stage races should be where he is likely to get most results.

I tend to support guys who havent won before so i dont cheer for the pope too often seeing as hes been a gt winner since 2005/7.

But this is class

Loyalty.

He stays with his team. He stays with an upcoming team which would have problems if he left.

Chapeau.

Ill still cheer for Rujano and Scarponi in the Giro though.

I don't think he'll be there whether he gets one or two years.

With the whole thing around when the suspension started, I think it'll be from 24th August. Even though that's pretty stupid seeing as his Tour will be taken away.

Donno if it has been mentioned, but Inigo Cuesta seems to have signed with Caja Rural for 2 years.

That and somehow Saxo Bank gets to keep his points from the TdF.
