Does anyone know what the Fothen brothers will be doing next year? They're 2 pretty good riders imo, but haven't heard anything about where they will be riding so far.

I think the last I heard they quit and joined the family business or something like that.

It was announced this morning that they will both ride for the German Continental-ranked Team NSP.

I just think finishing top 10 in your first year as a pro in a GT as tough as last year's Giro says something. Sure, he was older than your typical neo-pro but he also came to the sport much later than most.

Actually, I don't see him replicating that performance this year. I think he may struggle like so many do the year after a GT breakthrough but I believe he will be a podium contender in a couple of years after he's got 2-3 more GTs under his belt.

I guess it is possible that you're right - he could go "Cunego" and that Giro was the best he'll ever do, but I doubt it.

Agree with you on his hilly classics potential.

the only reason he rode top ten in the giro wa sthe big breakaway. he was not even near the 15 best climbers in the giro. he rod ein pink as extra motivation and don't forget the mud stage he rode well in and all the echelons, guys like pozzovivo, serpa etc were long eliminated not so this year or in the tour where competition is way stronger even. I will say porte has incredible talent but we will see as far as gt

rui costa was caught on doping so be sure no pt team will waste their energy on him or his brother who was also caight. one way ticket back to portugese cycling circuit for them if they are lucky because portugese cycling isn't what it used to be anymore

Rui Costa was also actually cleared, and in an "actually was innocent" way, not a "made an excuse and they looked for a reason to clear him" way.

He's damaged goods, sure, but far less damaged than a lot of people who are in the PT right now.

I don't see him finding a team too soon though - but it doesn't always turn out bad that way. It was sad to see Sinkewitz go until June without a team last year, but it turned out alright for him in the end. Costa might just have to be patient, and wait for somebody to get injured or caught doping to clear some roster space, or maybe if Menchov jumps ship from Geox there will be some roster space for him.

Radioshack have that strong Portuguese contingent, but they have enough troubles (and I think it would be a bad move for him, though in the short term may be okay); with their relatively small roster Movistar is a fine fit, but he already had a falling-out with Unzué which was why he had no team in the first place; logically there is now room at Vacansoleil but they may become 2011's Unibet/Fuji after the Riccò saga and with Mosquera there too - plus in their position hiring somebody who has been associated with the D word in the very recent past - even somebody who has been exonerated - could well be a bit of a bad idea.

they weren't suspended. it was accidental. similar to contador cept their case was 20 times stronger as they weren't the only "victims" btw nice judgment tone on your post.

maybe those little columbian guys you love are more credible and far more talented ;)
