He doesn't want to get back into cycling as long as he doesn't know exactly what caused his heart failure. It's been much over a year since the incident and nothing has been announced which IMO means either they'll never find out or they did but it's not something you can make public.

Sadly his career is over ... hasn't touched a bike in a long time and has gained quite a bit of weight. I can see him become a DS one day though but not for a while because he has his little kids.

In other news:

Brice Feillu close to Saur Sojasun?

http://www.ffc.fr/a_encart_centraux/ACTU_Depeches_LA_FRANCE_CYCLISTE.asp?actu_id=1340

This is the site that was the first to announce the Brajkovic-Astana deal so there might be something to it. In any case it would be much better for Brice, he would finally get to ride the Tour again.

I hope he gets back on the bike, even just to ride casually.

Maybe a team can take a punt on him as a DS or an advisor, but Kim Kirchen should not turn a pedal in anger as long as his health is at risk, however long that may be.

Leaves 6 riders (+any other possibles from other teams) whose contracts are expiring fighting for 3 spots.

I REALLY hope Russ Downing gets an extension, but the odds are not in his favour.

Tweet from Steven de Jongh reads to me as if he's not expecting Downing back next year. :(

"Gravelroad riding isn't the specialty off the team. 3 punctures. But a good last funny ride with @kaarvesen @RussDowning and @Greghenderson1"

Arvesen stays at sky as a ds

thats a lot of ds's now. wonder who is leaving

Do you have any insight regarding who has been the main DS on the road this year? Last year they had a DS list with each riders team for each race but that removed that feature this year.

I'm guessing their main DSes would be

Yates
De Jongh
Ljungkvist
Portal
Knaven
Arvesen

which seems like a managable list. That would mean some of the other people that have been filling in a DSes would concentrate more on their primary role. Have I forgotten anyone of the DSes?

Yates, de Jongh, Ljungqvist were the top three.

de Jongh did all the cobbled classics, TdS, and the Vuelta.
Ljungqvist did the hilly classics, MSR, Tirreno.
Yates did Paris-Nice, Giro, Dauphine, Tour.

Portal and Knaven did mainly the smaller one week races. Knaven did the british nationals. I think both of those will be doing more bigger races next year.

Rod Ellingworth did some races in 2010 but has dropped back to race coach with Bobby Jullich this year and of course has the olympics to focus on next year.

So for 2012 at the moment they have six ds's.

Anyone have any idea where Zakkari Dempster is going to next year?
Is Miguel Rubiano likely to step up a level or 2? He seems to be better than a continental team although he does have a dodgy background.

Be funny if SKY called his bluff and said here is a fair contract - you are not bigger than our team, if you don´t sign good luck for next year.

Then he will end up at Skil getting paid less than his leadouts. On a serious note does that leave anyone who has the cash or lure bring him in.

BMC obviously too ;).

They have the cash but I don´t recon they would sign Cav - They have some work to do to become a Team to really take advantage of the next 2 seasons , signing Cav would be a nightmare.
