I know its horrible that the team is folding but the silver lining is for greenedge here. It's much better for everyone folding now as opposed to later in the season when it would be much harder for everyone to find jobs. Goss, Roulston, Howard, Renshaw, Brammier will very much be on GE's radar. Also riders like Pinotti, Rabon, Sitsov (if he hasn't already signed for Sky) too.



Grabsh, Degenkolb, Eisel and Martin would get them going. Doubt it though. Will be interesting to see where Degenkolb ends up - looks like a real talent

Heres hoping the staff can all get new jobs too. Maybe Piper would be an asset for a sprint-train based GE team. No shortage of experience.

I'm not sure if Renshaw will go to Greenedge, if they guarantee him more leadership roles then maybe but if hes mostly going to be stuck doing leadout for Goss then I suspect he will move with Cav. Maybe we will see Cav to Greenedge.

Well, they had a hard time finding a sponsor ever since Telekom left. They rode without a prime sponsor before HTC joined them and Stapleton's company 'High Road' always featured in either the name or the jersey. So they where lucky to have HTC on board for the last years, otherwise the team would've folded long ago, IMHO.
Still strange to see they haven't been able to secure the long term future of the team in all these (highly succesfull) years... But still finding a new sponsor is very, very hard (remember Milram) these days.

I realise that you're not arguing, but Milram was in the opposite situation in terms of sporting success: it would have been more of a surprise if they had found a sponsor, in non-cycling-friendly Germany particularly. Even the GC had been going well for HTC with their Vuelta podium and Algarve/Paris-nice wins.

If you go through the list, there aren't many big corporate sponsors who have been pulled from no where to support the team.

You have companies like Rabo, Saxo and Omega Pharma who are have been heavily involved for many years, and are happy to continue with sponsorship.

BMC, Leopard and Green Edge are privately funded (although Rihs puts BMC's name on it it's hardly a sponsorship deal).

Astana, Katusha, Euskaltel.

Not sure on Lampre and Liquigas? Think the chief of Liquigas is keen on cycling or something? Vacansoleil are very willing to have their name in the sport. Radioshack is Lance deal. Sky is the team.

Garmin and Movistar are probably the biggest ones coming into the sport in recent times from further afield? Oh and Geox I guess, but we try and ignore that.

I'm forever hopefull so could it be a case of "Team HTC/Highroad comes to an end at the end of this season so all riders are free to sign with whoever they like OR can sign with the new team xxxx/Highroad as of next year", I take it their contracts are with HTC/Highroad and would be required to sign new contracts effectively with the new team.

Just don't want to see them end.

Mario & Emanuele Galbusera are the bosses of Lampre and I think they're pretty big cycling fans. They're the president & honorary president of the team anyway.


Even though I didn't like HTC, it's pretty sad that they're going.

At least we're not going to end up with 6 Anglo WorldTour teams next year anyway. It'll be 3 US, 1 UK, 1 Aus.

Doesn't sound like it. It's bad for the men's team and bl***y disastrous for the women's team. Stapleton is making noises about he may have alternative sponsorship options for the women (they sign contracts later), but who believes that?

Seems like Garmin is a bit short on funds to reap the rewards of all the available riders.

No, Cervelo remains. Just as the bike sponsor. We'd love to find a 2nd name to be more competitive on transfer market.

My guess is that they won't really be able to fill the void if all the riders we think might be leaving actually leave. Hushovd, Haussler, Bobridge, Meyer etc.

It's way too early to tell. We have no idea yet which teams will be left out of the WT and chances are some well established teams will find themselves as Pro Continental. I think for example Euskaltel might be in danger since they really haven't performed as well as some other years and they only managed a WT spot with a whisker last year. Also if Stapleton decides to keep going with the scraps of the HTC team as a Pro Continental team then they would also be a strong contender and we still have all the other competition from this year.

I think we'll have a better view of things in october at the earliest.

Euskatel are having a great year, 3 non Vuelta GT stage wins and the TDF Polka Dot, pretty sure after the Vuelta they'll be set for WT status.
