So any idea (ACF?) where Steele von Hoff (such an awesome name IMO) and Nathan Haas will be next year?

no clue but imagine it would have to be a pro conti or world tour team as why would those guys go to a continental team as they could ride with genesys next year?

Yeah, that's why I don't get Libertine Seguros's love for the guy: he's like the Cavendish of hilly races. Only shows his face in the final few hundred meters. But he's Spanish, that makes up for a lot, apparently. He's one of the best riders in the world, obviously, but not a great provider of entertainment.

I kind of found his tendency to do something really stupid endearing. The raincoat into Suancés in '08, for example.

I'd also say that while he can often hide himself in hilly races, he has his fair share of risks. What about when he and his Caisse teammates formed echelons on day 1 of Paris-Nice and you had him in the polka-dots getting on the front with 40k to go? Or when he went from the bottom of Mont Ventoux in the Dauphiné? Or when in the first (designated flat) stage of País Vasco it was him putting the hurt on on the final climb of the day that created the selection. Now, granted, he then hid himself in the group and allowed a second group to come back before contesting the sprint, but he's very often a very entertaining guy to have around in stage races.

I know he's Russian and there was an opportunity to ride for a Russian team, but I really don't know why Karpets ever left Caisse to go to Katusha, only to return to Movistar. He hasn't go much in terms of results in his time at Katusha.

I think Katyusha waved a bunch of money at him expecting him to duplicate his 2007 form, and he just can't do that. Movistar probably got him back at a fraction of the price he cost Katyusha, and there probably won't be too much of a settling-in problem given that he already knows the team management and there will still be at least 7 riders (Arroyo, Lastras, López, Rojas, Plaza, Erviti and Gutiérrez), probably more (Valverde of course, and Francisco Pérez and Luís Pasamontes are there at the moment but not resigned for next year at the moment, plus even if he's not a rider anymore I'd expect Txente García to still be around in some form) who were there while he was there last time around.

Well Katusha had a 30 million € budget, he probably got a HUUUUUGE raise

Apparently Katusha won't honour Leif Hoste's contract for next year:

http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/1...n-hoping-Lotto-Ridley-takes-him-on-board.aspx

Surely this can't be legal. Frankly if pro cyclists ever bothered to have a proper union with some actual power then there would be no way Katusha could get away with this.

I am not very familiar with Hoste's situation but there is an UCI rule that says if a rider has been inactive for over 6 months his team can terminate the contract ... that applied in Kirchen's case

That might be the case, but I still think it's a joke Katusha can to that to Hoste because of a serious crash that he had whilst racing. It's different to Soler and Movistar in my book as how I understand it is that Soler will be able to comeback to Movistar if and when he is ready, and will probably ride for their Continental team back in South America, sort of what Rabobank did for Kai Reus and that he eventually came back into the Rabo team via their Continental outfit (and even offered to keep Pedro Horillio on as well).

I know it might be a professional sport and all that, but I know that if I was a pro cyclist I would rather ride for Rabo than Katusha if I had the choice between the two.

Tbh it doesn't really amaze me... It still is a disgrace though....

Hoste already stated in Belgian media he'd like to go back to Lotto, so he might (will probably) end up there

Maybe Sky will force retirement upon one of their riders so they can get room for yet another Colombian supertalent :p

Personally I hope to see Duarte at Saxo Bank but it doesn't seem very likely.

I think that contador should accept to decrease his salary a bit to make room for new recruits to help him in the tour.

+1. Either that or move to Katusha, Sky or BMC
