Happy that Betancur has moved to a PT. Problem is i thought he would be doing smaller races and accumulate me CQ points. Might have to reconsider.

FYI Liquigas also particpate in most of the italian calander ;)

Definitely an improvement in the Liquigas Squad. Betancur is a more than adequate replacement for Ponzi and the other new riders seem like improvements on Finetto, Bellotti etc. I am surprised that Wurf has been left high and dry considering he's Basso's main training partner and whatnot though.

Appolonio and G would make a pretty good leadout for Cavendish. Although I feel kinda sorry for Appo who deserves to get his own chances, particularly in Italy. Who knows, perhaps Cav will let him win a stage or two to please the Italian market...

It's yet another problem that comes with having a squad chock full of talent for Brailsford to solve.

Cav likes to do the Giro as part of his Tour prep and Sky need their best Italian rider there. There's no way he'll want to p*** off his main guy or his team sponsor, so I think it's a given that they'll both be there.

Ordinarily, Cav would leave half way through, leaving maybe 2 or 3 chances for Appolonio later in the race, but it's heavily stacked again with flat stages early on and mountains at the end. As such, Cav will probably want to do up to and including 13 before disappearing, leaving only 18 for Appolonio.

I think Brailsford will be hoping that Cav can win a couple early (and there's a fair few chances), then start feeling charitable and Appolonio is strong enough (as he was on an occasion or two in last year's Giro) to take advantage of that. That way, everyone's happy.

Anyway, it's another nice problem to have.

no. you don;t become a star in italy just by winning giro stages. only pantani and cipollini were real stars in italy and that was for what they appeared as outside of cycling in interviews alongside their impressive career wins and pantani's style of riding

Liquigas is one of the more professionally run teams. I doubt they'd announce his signing unless they were sure he has a legal contract with them.

Cav has been talking about aiming to finish the giro, he hopes to be able to complete the set of GT points jerseys,,,

But did he sign anything with Liquigas? Not an actual contract, I imagine (he wouldn't be that stupid), but a preliminary agreement or something?

he signed a contract that would only be in place if acqua would fold and it doesn't during season was uncertainty about acqua staying in peloton or not

Ah, OK. No contract duplicity then (that's the kind of scenario I was thinking of when I said he wouldn't be stupid enough to sign an actual contract).
