The step isn't too far to also give the individual domestiques a few points in certain situations.
The problem is how to do it practically. You can't really have an individual evaluation of what each domestique did in a race. One way could be to give e.g. 1 point to every member of the team when one of the riders wins a stage. This could get a little odd if a rider wins from a solo break or something but I think it's hard for the rules to make any distinction between wins.
