rabobank are one of the 5 biggest teams in the world and their top leader finishes 6th in vuelta. yeah amazing... bad arguments

I wouldn't count Rabobank as one of the 5 biggest teams in the world. I doubt they are there budget wise and they sure aren't result wise. Yet they still managed to win some classics and GTs in the last 5 years, which is more than can be said about most teams.

The main point however is that in a country that only cares about the Tour, you either have a top sprinter or try to get a top 10GC. With the main focus being Dutch riders (and that won't change) you either pick Bos or Gesink as leader. Problem is that there just isn't a Dutch rider at the moment who would make a better choice as team leader.

In last 5 years they won

1 Giro d'Italia
1 MSR
1 GW
1 CSS
1 P-T

(Feel free to correct me If I missed anything)

Not exactly top 5 team, maybe they are around top 10 but their results are way too inferior compared to their hype imo

they have 15 million euro budget. so they are in top 5 of 6 biggest teams in the world. I know it sounds pathetic but when you pay guys like theo bos almost a million you are a joke.

no you try to win stages in the tour. nobody in the netherlands cares about a rider finishign 5th or 6th in the tour. boogerd finish 5th in tour 98. nobody cared. when he won on la plagne all netherlands knew it and loved it

Any rumours on Rabobank reinforcing their GC train for Gesink? Their climbing domestiques are getting old(Garate) or are retiring(Niermann).

Interesting commentary about Theo Bos' salary, Ryo. Almost a million... any evidence to back this up? Or the usual talking out of your a$$? (at least this is transfer related)

15 million euros is the budget for all 4 of their cycling teams, as said a million times before.

Lmao, that guy makes as much money as Boonen for winning the Ronde(ok, Dwars door) van Drenthe.

edit: oh, Ryo is the source. Hmm, never mind then.

Boonen only makes a million? That's quite low for such a rider...

Yeah, that was what he made at the old Quickstep. Back when Lefevere was poor (and constantly complaining about it). Of course now with a rich a$$ backer Boonen will make a lot more.

It's all I could find on Google. But I guess Boonen always got a lot of extra money when he won races like the Ronde van Vlaanderen or the green jersey in the Tour. Also makes a **** load of money of image rights and advertisements like any big sport star.

I think Phinney also made $500.000(not sure about the currency actually) during his fist pro year, so it's possible Bos makes a million.

As true now as it was 2 years ago.

"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of involving Rabobank or Robert Gesink approaches 1. In other words, Godwin put forth the sarcastic observation that, given enough time, all discussions—regardless of topic or scope—inevitably wind up being about Rabobank and Robert Gesink

Robert Gesink (their beloved team leader ;)) doesn't even make a million...

I've come across an interesting fact. We all know Rodriguez wants out of his contract with Katusha and if that happens most of Katusha's riders who have won races this year will either retire or go to a different team.

Oscar Freire: retiring unless he becomes WC.
Maxim Vantomme: moving to OPQS
Daniel Moreno: moving to Cofidis
Joaquim Rodriguez: likely to be leaving
Denis Galimzyanov: banned

Any news about Denis Menchov by the way? Is he retiring or will he ride another year? And is Alexander Kristoff still under contract for next year?

Wasn't moreno to cofidis just someone mixing Daniel navarro- who really is moving to cofidis, with moreno ?

Yes, but if Rodriguez leaves, then I would think Moreno would leave as well...

I don't think purito and moreno are such good friends anymore... part of the reason why purito wants to leave...
