"On Saturday, Kittel, his manager Jörg Werner and team manager Iwan Spekenbrink held a four-hour discussion. While no results were announced, the statements afterwards were far from positive. There was no agreement amongst the parties, Werner said. There is no thought of an early contract termination “right now”, he said, “We don’t want to go that far at this time” -- giving the impression that it remains a possibility."
Who would sign him - either now or later? I don't see a lot of teams able to pay his salary and already equipped for a sprint train, yet currently without a top sprinter

A big ticket signing for Bjarne Riis' BMC-IAM project?

Sky have the ingredients for one and Viviani's deal is only for a year but that's very unlikely at best. Maybe Trek?

I wondered Trek too. With Cancellara on the way out and Mollema hardly a sure thing it wouldn't be a bad investment. he'd have Nizzolo and the van Poppels, but they'll still need some reinforcements. I wonder who at Giant is loyal to Degenkolb more than Kittel...?

Also I think Sky would consider the domestic bad publicity (of being the biggest barrier to Cavendish being the/a dominant sprinter again) not worth the 15 wins a season Kittel brings to the table

This would be true, but isn't even the main problem. Sky are a GC team. They were not able to give full support to Cavendish once they shifted their focus to Wiggins and Froome, and they will certainly not give any sprinter not named Cavendish even that much support.

Top sprinters are for teams without realistic hopes of winning Tour GC.

Sky don't give a rat's ass about Cav. or the domestic bad publicity. They care about their objectives. They showed that much when they had Cav. on their own team. It certainly wouldn't stop them hiring his rival if they wanted to dominate in sprints. I just don't think that is a real focus.

I won't be gutted if CJJ is leaving Saxo, but I hope he doesn't go to Sky. I like the guy.

If Bjarne comes back and join the BMC staff, wouldn't he take a handful of riders with him? From what I've heard, he will take Saxo Bank (which means a lot of millions) with him. Potential new team name: IAMASAXOBMC. :D

Could it be the end of Oleg? Gotta love the cycling drama. :p

I'm hoping this comes to fruition if only to see here Sean Kelly try to pronounce it... :D

Think about this scenario. Bjarne announce that he will be team manager for a large Swiss team with BMC as the main sponsor and IAM + Saxo Bank as the co-sponsors. Huge budget to go shopping for new riders and buying out Sagan and maybe Contador for 2016 and 2017.

Oleg will either get tired of his "old toy" and stop the sponsorship or go crazy and buy a shitload of new riders.

I would think Riis would take one of them but not the other, take some of the Danish riders, while Tinkov carries on with the global hodgepodge Tinkoff otherwise have, and Riis starts a new team, because even without Riis a BMC-IAM merger is going to be as brutal as Cannondale. Plenty of deadwood but it's still a struggle to get down to 28ish riders, without even adding Contador and his favourite domestiques.

Here are some hypothetical trains for both Sky and Trek involving Kittel:

Sky-Knees, Rowe, Stannard, Thomas, Puccio, Fenn, Juul Jensen, Sutton, Kittel

Trek-Rast, Cancellara, Beppu, Jungels, Steegmans, B Van Poppel, D Van Poppel, Nizzolo, Kittel

Apparently, and according to fellow fans of Spanish cycling forum (thanks Ateko), local basque television has revealed that Mikel Landa will ride for Sky next season.

Of course, we will have to wait for official news...but it sounds like this is it.

Cheers.

Yes, although Nieve, unlike the Izagirre Bros, is not exactly of his generation and also has to renew his contract with Sky.

I hope they do renew him and see the double Mikel combo with leadership at races like PV, Giro, San Sebastián, and maybe La Vuelta.

And Landa will be the GC rider for Giro 2016.

Landa would mean no Porte.

But it makes good sense. If "Landa to Sky" is confirmed, so is "Porte going to another team" too.

If he goes to BMC he'll bring Fuglsang and Porte, that's almost certain.
As for Saxo Bank I seriously doubt they go to BMC. It'd be a deal like the one the have with Tinkoff. Saxo wants a core of danish riders, so it wouldn't make sense to sponsor a team that wants to have more swiss riders.
We never know with Oleg, but I think he'll stay in pro cycling until, at least, 2016. He wants to be next to Contador when he retires.

Well, CULT was in search of co-sponsor and the manager is on sichkleave. Voila! Saxo-CULT headed by the Riis next year?
