Sylvain Chavanel is on the market. He will leave IAM Cycling at the end of the season.

I wonder if that hints at the IAM merger. On paper he's one of their top riders, or at least one of their best palmares, so maybe he figures BMC won't want to retain him given he's 37 next year.

more like chavanel made a ton of money and didn't deliver, to put it mildly

True, but again, his name alone got them lot of invites including TdF so it was a marriage out of convenience beneficial to both parties and win-win situation.

I think it is a bit early for Peters and Hart to join Sky, a proConti team would be better for them at this stage of their careers, as an aside Peters is currently recoving from an injury

Going to be sad when Porte leaves Sky.

But Sky are signing two of the biggest talents out there in Landa and Kwiatkowski.

I get why Landa would go away from Astana considering the Giro and Aru and Nibali are prominent GC riders. But why go to a team that is filled with GC riders? Why not step a bit down on the money and go to a team that you are guaranted to lead and get good support?

Landa will lead at the Giro next year with good support.

I'd agree with that. Maybe if they join as stagaires they could still take that option next year.

I'd agree but how many teams are there like that? Replace a retiring Contador? If, like Viviani, he signs a one year deal, Sky could just be a stepping stone, which would be fair enough.

Plenty. Katusha would be the best fit. IAM. Lampre. Orica. Even BMC. If he wants to challenge the established riders in a team in hopes of being the top GC man, any team WT but Sky, FdJ, Movistar and Tinkoff should let him do that with good odds if he brings his A-game.

This could be his potential support at the Giro:

Landa, Konig, Nieve, Suitsou, Kwait, Poels, Kiry, Puccio, Viviani

Thing with a team packed with GC guys is you'll get some great doms.

Are there many riders leaving Sky aside from Porte? Signing five new riders, as CN reports, does seem to imply that. Given the strength of their current squad and the fact that Peters, Moscon, and to a lesser extent Geoghegan Hart won't deliver results immediately, it would seem that they will lose some firepower next year, although with an eye to the future that might be a calculated risk.

I can't find any news on this, but according to procyclingstats, Langeveld extended with Cannondale through 2017.

Except Froome,G.,Poels,Konig,Puccio,Swift,Sergio Henao,D.Lopez the others are susceptible for a move away from Sky,if they don't get a renewal.I suppose they'll keep Stannard,Rowe,Boswell,Deignan,Roche,Knees and the Belarusians but i would keep at all cost Porte and Kennaugh too.

Viviani is on a one-year contract and no hints at him being re-signed. To be fair, he was looking for a new team after Cannondale folded, he won his first GT stage, and is in the shop window if anyone wants him. A new team would have to, like Sky, allow him to pursue his track ambitions with the Olympics next year.

Jerome Pineau tweeted yesterday:

"Au même titre que mon ami @chava_sylvain et pour les même raisons je ne suis pas conservé dans l équipe @IAM_Cycling l année prochaine"

"In the same way as my friend @chava_sylvain and for the same reasons I am not be retained in the team @IAM_Cycling l next year"

Edit: here's the reason for Chavanel and Pineau going:
