Frederik Frison extended his contract with Lotto Soudal for 2 more years.

The benefit of being the son of a DS I guess.

I like Lotto-Soudal but I have literally never heard of him.
He's the guy slaving away in the front of the peloton in the hours before broadcasting.
Greipel is very fond of him and he has finished runner-up inKBK in the youth categories as well as some other notable results during cobbled races. He's not the son of Herman but some distant cousin. He also was a decent TT'er being NC in the Juniors category and Elites without pro-contract. Illustrated by his 9th place in the U23 WC in 2014, he's never gonna be a winner but he has a big engine and will most likely be a workhorse his entire life.

There are also rumours about Carboni turning pro with Bardiani, not the worst option, but the guy is probably ready for a bigger team.
Carboni bigger team? He should consider it a great success if he signs for Bardiani. I don't think he's anything special at all. I'm much more intrigued by Savini signing for Bardiani. Carboni will end up as another Bongiorno at best, I believe (not similar riders, but in terms of level).

I always saw Carboni as a good allrounder who's good on all kind of terrain and also has goot TT-skills, that's the reason why I'd like to see him on a team that focuses a bit more on TT-skils. Other than that signing for Bardiani for 2 years is totally fine, way better that signing with a team like Wilier (Dani Martinez really needs to sign with a better team, he hasn't progressed at all), I like Bardiani and they are a great option for an Italian neopro.

Speaking of Wilier and talent development, it will be interesting to see if any of Rodriguez and Amezqueta make a leap now that they're moving from one of the worst teams at developing talent to one of the best (Caja Rural).

Looking at the roster of Quickstep for next year, I think the loss of riders like Bauer, Velits and especially Vermote will be greater than some might imagine. Sure, they still have Keisse, Declercq or Devenyns for long days at the front but Vermote is just one of the best out there for that job. He could spend hour after hour at the front of the peloton, day after day. That kept the rest of the train for Kittel, Gaviria or Trentin way more rested for the finale. Now with smaller teams and maybe more riders "wasting" energy on keeping breakaways under control might make things harder for them next year. In my opinion, they actually should add one or two more guys for the dirty work.

Willem "Willie" Smit (RoadCover/Rias Baixas) joins Team Katusha-Alpecin on a one-year deal, according to their Twitter feed.

The south african is leading the UCI Africa Tour and has already racked up 17 wins this season in Africa and Spain, also putting on an impressive performance in the WC Road Race last week.

The new Mehdi Sohrabi?

I think Sohrabi was taken purely for points he scored in all of those smaller races. That was back in the time when there were more teams willing to have a WT license than there were spots in the WT. Points were one of the main things used to determine which one would get a license and the points system rewarded riders who were the top riders in continental races on their respective continents.

If I'm not mistaken, all current teams have their WT license guaranteed for some time so there is no need for such transfers nowadays.

Yeah, Sohrabi was only for points. AG2R also took an iranian for the same reason and Euskaltel took all kinds of riders from several countries.
