Your count is similar to mine. 9 riders left, 5 of which are Kazakhs.

The team is like a worthless carcass that has been picked clean by the Vultures. If UCI re-ups their license it would be a shame. They are not worthy of Pro Tour status. And ultimately they should let go of Contador. How AC's lawyers/manager are letting this go this far, and this late in the year, is confounding to me.

Astana is basically dead ! There is no way they can build a team for TdF. UCI should do something about that

I agree with the posts above, Astana is done, all they have are kazakh riders and AC and company that's it. Get rid of them let AC go to garmin or quickstep or caisse whichever one.

If the Hog is to be believed, he already has an out and is essentially signed to Garmin.

On the other hand if the Hog is not on top of things, I think he's trying to see where things are headed before he blows up the relationship completely. Patience is key right now.

PATIENCE:( one of the most abused concepts in the sport of Bicycle racing.
We have to wait months for the blood test results. Weeks, maybe months for the B samples to return. Then, months for decisions on almost any issue with UCI, WADA or CAS. Then maybe a few more months for the appeals to come through. Before you know it, this years discoveries and decisions come to a climax just in time to start issuing suspensions for the 2010 Tour de France. What a pitiful cycle, what a dysfunctional state. I Must say, that is why I will Thank God once the World Cup Ski Racing season begins at the end of this month. I'll then be able to just check in to find out about the latest issue that is still unresolved, and begging for our "patience", and then check right out again.
I love this sport, but this time period of the year emphasizes to us all how little real news is allowed to escape from the inner circles, and get to us, the fans. This is a very guarded sport. So much so that, we should almost feel ecstatic about being allowed to watch the races.
I can't wait till Lombardia is done with, then I go on snooze control til next year

I was talking about AC being patient, not you. He needs to let events unfold a bit more . . . a path will emerge.

Just to stoke up interest in that other thread, again:
Earls Court, London. Double Tour de France winner Alberto Contador made a surprise appearance at the Cycle Show today fueling rumours that he is about to announce a move to a new team. Spaniard Contador has been linked to Garmin, Quick.Step and the Caisse d'Epargne teams however cycling insiders believe a move to the new Team Sky may be on the cards.

Team Sky are the new British backed Pro Tour team who have one of the largest budgets in the sport. The team have made a number of signings for next season however have not managed to secure any grand tour contendors or big name British cyclists. Pundits have refered to the team a "British Milram" and said the team matches Sky's TV offerings by costing a lot of money and offering very little you'd like to watch. Contadors current Astana team field a far more formidable Grand Tour squad and is only composed of 2 riders.

Contador is tight lipped on the rumours and responded to all questions with his usual "Next question" response

Just imagine the "heat" around, here, should the "Anti-Lance" join the UK outfit.;)

I think it's pretty hilarious that Team Sky approached AC after their principal (his name escapes me at the moment) allegedly said he wouldn't have anything to do with him (or something to that affect). Apparently he protested too much.

Of course Team SKY will ride Pinarello's next year. Their groupset and wheels are yet to be announced. Will rage pretty hard if it is not Campagnolo.

Dire.

Marcus Ljungqvist (34) has said no to Bjarne Riis and Retirement Shack by retiring after Paris-Tours which will be his final race as a professional.

I care. That's too bad. I was hoping he'd try to return to competition. Well there's still always a chance he'll change his mind. Can't forget his performance in the 2004 Dauphine and his Alpe D'Huez win in 2003. Oh well.:(

2003 Alpe D Huez, what a ride. Even if it was doped up. After that he seemed to be very on and off and seemed to be a bit of a quitter. He was pretty good in the alps of 07 but lost 5 minutes in the tt.
