According to Vino, Alberto Contador will remain at Astana next year and he has said he will have no problems in helping Contador win the Tour again.

As for Shane Sutton being at the Sun Tour, it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that he is also Australian and that his nephew Chris Sutton, is riding for Garmin as well?

Vino is a kind of a rider who I actually believe when he says something like that. He has to think about Astana and can't just ride for himself and let the team fall apart around him. He has lots in stake (including a future job as a DS for the team) with the team. And he probably can accept that he can't beat Contador or A.Schleck unlike a certain american. Though I have to say that Vino's chances of winning would be pretty close to 0 whereas Mr.Armstrong could have a real shot next year.

apparently former alpe d huez winner Iban Mayo is calling it quits for good.

The one time basque star has decided not to pursue a comeback when his

doping suspension comes to an end.....if anybody cares haha

I guess many people care. He had, and still has, lots of fans, all over the world.

2003 Alpe D Huez, what a ride. Even if it was doped up. After that he seemed to be very on and off and seemed to be a bit of a quitter. He was pretty good in the alps of 07 but lost 5 minutes in the tt.

he also tested positive in 07's tour ;)

He did well to do that while serving a ban, I'll be pretty sad to see him go he was an interesting unpredicatable rider, maybe he doped but he was not alone at the time (not a justification)

whoops 07' *

my point, don't read too much into his impressive form in the 07' alps...

sorry, couldn't help that.

I know, he was never a contender but on his day he could mess things up for other contenders, like alot of the big names who havsince been implicated one way or another. Though the past is the past.... lets have some new blood

Isn't that the Retirement Shack's rallying call?

No, Radioshack reinfuses old blood.

If any lawyers contact me regarding this post I'll argue I was referring to their transfer policy.

AC hasn't said any differently--Astana won't let him out of his contract. And Vino's assurances that he will be in full support of him is comforting since there are exactly 9 riders signed to Astana for 2010. :p

The problem I think is that Vino is bigfooting the process again. Astana, at this point, isn't a ProTour quality team with 9 riders for next year. They've let their entire management/team essentially walk out the door. They are holding a guy essentially hostage in a vain effort to retain their ProTour license. No one of any real quality is going to want to transfer in and sign a 2 year deal knowing that (i) it is highly likely they will lose their Pro Tour license, (ii) even if they don't, the nucleus of the team AC is disgruntled and doesn't want to be there and won't be there after the 2010 season, and (iii) they will have to deal with the prospect of not getting paid.

Given Astana reason for existing is to prolong Vino's career, his and the pre-Bruyneel's Astana's doping incidents, the factors I set forth above, why would the UCI NOT strip them of their license? So Vino seems, IMO, to be thumbing his nose at the UCI...

He's also delusional if he thinks anyone's going to let him ride the Tour next year.

Roy Sentjens leaves Silence Lotto to join Milram for next year and an option for 2011 if Milram chooses to stay on or they find a new sponsor. According to Sentjens another S/L rider has signed, but is not saying who.

The other rider that will join Milram is Wim de Vocht (Vavansoleil). Also, Dominique Cornu (Quick Step) will join Skil-Shimano. Last but not least, Astana appears to have a new sponsor (Samroek-Kazina).

I would be surprised that there is anyone of the quality that Astana let go/transfer to Radio Shack that is still available. I think it is pretty late in the game to try and build a competitive Pro Tour team for 2010.
