Team Sky have been linked with Damiano Caruso. Does anyone have any information on the type of rider this guy is? I believe he was u23 world champion?

No, that was Gianpaolo Caruso back in 2001. Damiano is only 22. He won a stage in Giro Baby this year and was 10th in the U-23 Wolds road race. He was also 9th in Tour de l'Avenir last year.

Oh man, I Love it! Hold everything!!!! Woke up this morning to find that Bruyneel ain't going nowhere YET!:D HA! that really makes me laugh! Astana's rigor mortis is still clenching his throat, and they chose to step back and think about the matter, before going any further. Meanwhile Radio Shack's structure hangs in the balance, as a Pro Tour team.
And, to add insult to injury, the transfers of Kloden, Rast, Zubeldia and Popovych are still not resolved. LA must be going through some interesting moments, right about now. Now it's not just Contador's problem, others still seem to be tethered to the sinking ship too! Bruyneel has even uttered words about sitting out 2010, rather than remain with Astana.:D The Astana Organization has blossomed into a tremendous boil on cycling's rear end. I don't know why/how they can justify allowing this team to continue in the Pro Tour level. So, the party is not over yet. Stay tuned, for more exciting developments.:p

I think we talked about this back when Radio Shack confirmed JB as its manager. The article said he hadn't negotiated his release, but they made it sound like it was a mere afterthought. If Astana is serious about competing next year, Kloden, Popo, Zubeldia and Rast would be decent additions/retentions. And it would probably put AC's mind at ease. I doubt that JB would simply sit out the season, but even if he did, that would mean Radio Shack has no manager and likely no Pro Tour License.

Pure Drama. :D

Kazakh Federation don't want to hold JB, but they can't understand why he don't send resignation letter. Otherwise they affraid to fire him without any reasons, who knows what he's intending to undertake in this case.

About riders - the same. They're under contract for 2010, there're no any difference between them and Alberto Contador. Why everyone's agree that he must to stay if Astana keeps pro-tour license but Kloeden or Zubeldia are free to go? If LA wants to see them in the Shack let's talk with Astana about transfers. It's clear when we talk about Wiggins and the Sky, so - it's clear too for the Shack and Kloeden...

So - for JB it should be better to continue his buisness with Rumpf about Astana's license:cool:

From AST to Netapp!

Huub Duyn is rumoured to leave Garmin to join NetApp. Who would have guessed that...

They are also looking to sign Belgian Dimitri Claeys (Jong Vlaanderen-Bauknecht), and just signed 22 year old Italian Cesare Benedetti (6th in baby Giro, currently stagair at LIQ)

For 2010 they already got Eric Baumann (Nutrixxion), Andreas Schillinger (Nutrixxion), Alexander Gottfried (Kuota), Daniel Schorn (ELK Haus), Jan Barta (KTM-Junkers), Nico Keinath (Hadimec), Michael Schwarzmann, Timon Seubert and Tassilo Fricke.

Astana opposes output Zubeldia and Kloden

According to L'Equipe revealed, Johan Bruyneel talks between the Federation and Kazakhstan, which manages the Astana have been broken after the authorities prevent the departure of Haimar Zubeldia, Andreas Klöden and Gregory Rast.

The three runners have existing contract with Astana, but Bruyneel is the intention of buying his letter of freedom and recruit to his new team Radio Shack.

However, it has authorized the departure of Yaroslav Popovych who also had a contract with Astana in 2010.

In any case, Bruyneel says she does not throw in the towel because the Kazakh authorities always take decisions at the last minute.

Reading the latest Cycling Weekly it appears that Ben Swift has said he will honour his contract with Katusha for next season, so that’s another British rider off the list. They also state that Garmin will only release Bradley Wiggins if they can get Alberto Contador and with recent news of new sponsors and riders to Astana that now looks highly unlinkely.

The only incoming news they add is that Michael Barry should sign and also Ed Clancy. Which to me leaves two questions.

1. Without Bradley Wiggins they lack a genuine top 10 rider for any Grand Tour let alone Le Tour. Is there anyone out there still available? Kreuziger, Pellizotti?
2. As well as a genuine contender they also lack a real top level sprinter. As such from the team they currently have and even with the rumoured incoming riders, do they even look worthy of a place at Le Tour?

I must personally admit that after all the fanfare I am rather underwhelmed by their current speculated line up.

If this is all Astana have left, on their rider roster:

[KAZ] BAZAYEV Assan
[KAZ] DMITRIYEV Valeriy
[KAZ] DYACHENKO Alexsandr
[KAZ] IGLINSKIY Maxim
[KAZ] KIREYEV Roman
[KAZ] MURAVYEV Dmitriy
[KAZ] RAIMBEKOV Bolat
[KAZ] RENEV Sergey
[KAZ] VINOKOUROV Alexandre
[KAZ] ZEITS Andrey
[ESP] CONTADOR VELASCO Alberto
[ESP] HERNANDEZ BLAZQUEZ Jesus
[ESP] NAVARRO GARCIA Daniel
[ESP] NOVAL GONZALEZ Benjamin
[ESP] ZUBELDIA AGIRRE Haimar
IN
[KAZ] FOFONOV Dmitriy
[KAZ] GOUROV Maxim
[KAZ] IGLINSKIY Valentin

I make them short of the rquired PT roster by 7.
Isn't the full quota 25?

Deadline for signings is October 20th, I believe, or am I wrong and it's the deadline for PT licence issue?

Anyhow, having read that, while the riders mentioned above, in earlier posts, are possible signings, none will be, prior to the issue of a new Astana PT licence. (KazakhNeRider)

So, another question. Does anyone know which bit is the cart and which bit is the horse and are Astana playing a risky wait and see game?

WOW!! That is a heck of a surprise. Didn't see that coming.

Should be a great signing though. Should really be great in passing on his knowledge for the cobbled Classics.

I'm not quite sure where these comments should go, but this seems as good a place as any, since it deals with transfers.
I know this will probably attract a lot of flak, but these are just my gut feelings, after all the commotion that has occurred surrounding the start of a Radio Shack team twirling around Planet Armstrong.
F*@#k every one of those wannabes that have transferred to LA's newest obsession. Popovych never fulfilled his true potential and became a mediocre follower, at best. After a nothing existence with Silence Lotto he scurried to get onto LA's coat tails as soon as he announced his comeback- his only plus is in a TTT, and there isn't going to be one in the 2010 TdF, so......Next. Leipheimer was tired of LA a LONG time ago, that's why he subjected himself to the disrespect of Rabobank and Gerolsteiner for all those unsupported years.:D. He's been back under Bruyneel since LA left Discovery, where he has been made comfortable getting his Tour of California titles and National Championship. This year he even got more than a little support from Contador, getting the Castilla y Leon title, and then he twirled around after his DNF in the TdF and slapped (twittering) Alberto, in deference to the God, LA's intentions. Man, I'm surprised at how ungrateful and resigned to the inevitability of second fiddle LL has become. I guess he's happy with the biscuit (ToC) that nobody else really seems to want.
Rast? Who cares?? Vaitkus?? so what, neither deserves further comment. Kloden? Oh, you mean the guy on Telekom, who used to despise LA??? Sorry, No TTT in the 2010 TdF, he'll be lucky to make the top 10 in 2010, you'll see. Horner? Rock on, old man! At least he still looks like a little boy, now he just looks like little boy, who follows Poppy around.
Brajkovic? One of the only riders that I am sorry to see him leave AC's side. But the mastermind of JB has never seriously let this young man fly. Only once did he have a real opportunity under JB, at the Vuelta, a couple of years back, when he was a lot younger. But then again, JB really had no one else(except DeVolder) in his quiver, at the time. I doubt he'll be much more than a supporter next year too, so.... another wasted year of his youth, too bad for him.
Paulinho? a truly loyal Spaniard? Nah. BTW did anybody see him at this years TdF??..... I didn't think so. Yeah, a GC contender really needs his team to support him, I just think this guy supported the Loser. And finally the Z-man, Zubeldia. Good rider? Yeah, back in 2003, with Iban Mayo at his side. Now? I hope Astana let that whining man go to Retirement Shack, Ironically, it's where he belongs.
The Gravitational pull of a Legend, who has ignored the old saying, that one should quit while they're on top, Who has returned for one too many, has truly astounded me. But I must say that I'm glad that it's ALMOST all over now. Soon it will be taken to the roads. I hope everyone gets to the TdF in one piece, and ready to go, because if they do, it's going to be some truly Grand Entertainment.
Sorry folks, I had to just get that off my chest. Like Therapy.... aaaah, I feel a lot better now! If you took the time to read that, Thanks! now you can pile on, I think I insulted enough riders for the rest of the winter:D:D

No one (outside of the Kazakhs) wants to ride for Astana, least of all AC.

Yeah, but it doesn't look like Astana is going to let AC go.

You would think that the opportunity to ride for a Tour-winning team would be a reason to stay on Astana..

Your argument makes no sense. It has nothing to do with riding with AC and everything to do with the cluster-fu%k of a situation at Astana. If they had their crap together in August, maybe a different story. But it's 4 days before the official signing deadline and they only have 9 riders under contract. Maybe 10. They have not announced a single transfer IN to Astana. Or that they have an actual management structure in place (sure they signed Yvon, but it's not like he has an active management company right now; he's got to build a structure to support the team . . . in 4 days).

It's not a reflection on AC or whether anyone wants to ride with him. It's a reflection on Astana.

If I'm interpreting the bad Google translation correctly, it says that Bruyneel signed Zubeldia's release from Astana. How can that be, and what authority would JB hold if the KazFed wants to keep HZ?

Says release was signed by teams previous spokesperson. Does not identify this person by name.

Thanks for the explanation, zoeart. Google only gets me so far, sometimes need a person's language skills instead of the machine.
