Interesting.. I wonder if they guarranteed him a train and a GT trip.

Roche extends with ag2r.

Probably guaranteed him the Giro, when their other sprinters are taking a racing break after doing all the classics

I hope the first couple of stages won't feature too many hills then. Otherwise he could be out of his first GT before even 'showcasing' himself...

Contentpolis-Ampo is said to have offered Rasmussen a contract before the Vuelta. The missed the deadline however for rider's rosters, so that he could not participate.

Staff news:

due to AST engagement with Giuseppe Martinelli, RIini Wagtmans abandons ship, saying he doesn't know those people and doesn't want to get involved with them. He also sneers, 'AST knew that I had secured a PT license from the UCI with de Rooij, and they could be throwing all of that out of the window'

Vacansoleil has issued a 'gag order' for all employees of the team regarding the dismissal of the team doctor Peter Janssen. Apparently he also wrote this book published July 2009 'Bloedvorm', which literally translates in 'blood form', but is a dutch way of saying 'being in the best shape imaginable'. It's a clinical and literature study of the oxygen transportation/delivery capacity of blood, and discusses EPO (quoting 8-12% increase of performance), but also altitude training, hyperbaric (?) tents, blood doping, ozon therapy, 'fake' blood, astma, boosting, blood deficiencies and hematocrit

a quote:

Well dosed, EPO is an extremely safe medicine for patients and athletes alike. Unprofessional use of EPO can lead to accidents, but that is nothing special. That applies to many medications

The book is written, firstly, for athletes who will be faced with EPO sooner or later. Secondly, for sport doctors and cycling doctors who often seriously lack any knowledge of EPO and have no idea of the sports practice. I think they will be able to learn from this book. It's also intended as a study book for students in sports science etc. And as a reference work for sportjournalists, to better understand the complicated substance, so that they can improve the quality of coverage/reporting

@Bala Verde: The Giro starts in Amsterdam, little chance of seeing any kind of hills in the first few stages :)

hehe, you are right but with the Noord Zuid lijn debacle, and the subsequent sinking of the Vijzelgracht, there could be some serious climbing involved in the prologue ;)

No mention of an AGR stage that Giro?

First stage goes to Utrecht and second stage goes to Middelburg both starting in Amsterdam so they're going the wrong way for an AGR stage.

Seems like his first admission that he is looking to move on.

To be fair I would say that currently Garmin are a stronger Grand Tour outfit. But I guess Wiggins may suggest a couple of other riders that he would like to have signed as well.

Garmin Wigan? Is he kidding? Garmin are more like the Spurs or City. Knocking on the door.

I think one interesting thing is that he says he's interested in defending his pursuit title. The question is wether his training will in any way accomodate that fact or if he'll simply train as if he's a Tour winner and just go with that to the Olympics and see what happens. It might be that his track ambitions might get in the way of his GC ambitions if it effects his training.

He says Cervelo is going to work on a lead-out train.

Rabobank offered him more money than Cervelo and he says he never expected Rabo to offer him a spot in the tour right away and didn't expect a special treatment in any way. He says he just feels really good about Cervelo and wants to learn from Hushovd.

Man, what an A-hole. ;p

CN reports that the top 3 Continental teams, Cervélo, Diquigiovanni and Aqua e Sapone will get invites to PT races next year and that there probably will be fewer PT licenses given out.

So this leads to the question. What aspiring PT teams will get the shaft? Bbox Bouygues Telecom, Cofidis, Lampre-NGC Milram and Radioshack are the ones still undecided upon and from the looks of it now there might be two or three of them not getting in.

The Shack is a certainty to get a PT licence. Bbox and Cofidis should go to Pro Conti level and focus on French races that matter to them. And besides, they will get an invite to all ASO races anyway.

Björn Schröder (28) extends his contract with Milram, meanwhile, his team-mate Martin Müller (35), is retiring.

Swedish champion Marcus Ljungqvist (Saxo Bank) has gotten an offer from Radioshack that he hasn't responded to yet. He says he has two offers to think about but won't do so until after the Worlds are over. He also says he has other plans in cycling other than being a rider so he might be retiring as well.

Ljungqvist is 35 years old so he should fit well in with the shuffle board crew in The Shack if he decides to go there.

As the Shack doesn't need a ProTour licence. They only require an invite to the Tour. The team is sponsoring Armstrong not a cycling team. The Shack will not be around after 2011.

I thought the idea was for Armstrong to become a DS or manager for the team when he retired?

You believed that?

There is a whole new generation of Hollywood actresses who look like his mother who have yet to have been exposed to the Lance miracles. No way Armstrong is driving a car.

Couldn't someone drive the car for him and feed him peeled grapes? This would allow him to pursue his true passion - twittering.

Clever, besides old codgers, Armstrong is nabbing the odd French guy, hoping to save a few bucks on a PT parchment......
.....not that these dummies have a chance of riding their own Tour.....
GL has class.....sorry, had class.
