I'm a bit tired of reading this everywhere. They just have the most money, so they can afford to buy all the youngsters that everyone can see are the biggest talents. But for some reason Matxin is lauded as this genious 'scout'.

Even Savio arguably had better archivements with Rujano & Co if we take the budget into consideration.

Just like any other team signing the best youngsters, there's usually a Camilo Ardila, Alex Riabushenko or Cristian Muñoz for every Pogacar, Ayuso or Morgado. They don't do anything different to Team Sky when they were the big dogs and signing Sivakov, Bernal, Halvorsen etc.

I'll give them credit for being quite good at developing their youngsters once they have them. The points-hunting in smaller races seems to be a good way of introducing them to the pro peloton while letting them taste some leadership early on. Team Sky wasn't always as successful doing that, though I think they did a better job than they sometimes got credit for.

Matxin seems to be good with developing young guns and has a reputation to be able to handle controverse characters (Ricco, Cobo, Ayuso).
Ineos can't do none of this. Even Tao left them.

It took a while for them to get their act together but as of 2024 UAE are indisputably the best team by the strength and depth of talent they have. In the Tour UAE had three of the top ten in Nice and won the teams competition by 31 minutes ahead of the previous TdF kings Visma.

Widar likes Lotto. Lots of room for to rise up the ranks there. I don't think he's keen on the domestique role, and that's what he'd be doing for awhile at UAE/Visma/Soudal.
But other teams will make a play: Ineos, Bora...but a Belgian team would have an advantage I suspect.

Also remember the 60 wins right now is without any wins from sprinters.
HTC in 2009 had 86 wins.

There's really no talk about him.
At least with Piccolo you had the roller coaster experience and some clinic related rumors.
Covi is just a guy who had a very promising couple of years after turning pro and then completely disappeared. I know he's well liked inside the team and by many of his teammates. And I know he was supposed to ride a Hirschi-like calendar this year to help him find his mojo, but it's not working out.
He had mononucleosis last year and has suffered from Achilles / knee issues until this May, don't know whether we should expect some better results going forward.

Looking at one metric: They have the third highest CQ team score ever already, and the season isn't even close to being finished. They need 200 or so more points to have the second highest CQ score ever, overtaking Visma from last year. And they're missing only 1800 points to beat their own CQ score record from last year.
