while i'm aware this is really stretching beyond conspiracy theory, and is not likely to be the case, i thought it entertaining to ponder for a minute or two.

while i'm aware this is really stretching beyond conspiracy theory, and is not likely to be the case, i thought it entertaining to ponder for a minute or two.

I reckon it's more that Di Luca suggested it to Katusha, it wasn't thought through fully before being announced, the UCI told them "No, you can't do that, it's against the rule". But then the UCI had no option but to reveal Armstrong's situation.

Essentially, human error!

This is easier to analyze. It's called "getting your story straight" in advance. Something will be hitting the fan down the road, and the UCI was preparing for it. At some point, something will happen and the UCI will say "See, we told you we've always had a rule about contracts and salary". My guess is that some Lance shiite is about to hit the fan, they know it, and UCI is laying down some good excuses as preparation for battle.

I think normally the UCI would cover Armstrong's back and you'd never expect someone to come and ask.

That's exactly the way it would have been handled by a competent, professional team. Team Armstrong has shown incompetence before though. I'm specifically thinking about all the anticipation they tried to build about releasing the Landis 'blackmail' emails. It wouldn't surprise me if his yes-man entourage never even told him he had to take a salary.

Then Lance comes along. In order to keep the other riders from walking-out, I guess they come up with the idea that Lance is riding for free.
So I wouldn't be surprised if Lance gets put in the dirt once or twice down under. Some guys are gonna be really ****ed.

I'm not surprised about this new unveiled detail on LA's long record of lies--what I'd like to know is IF Astana ever going to prove it in public? at the same time this news makes me think that because of LA getting a salary from the Kazakhs & doing basically whatever he pleased & molding the team as his liking-and most of all nor allowing Vino to comeback-all those things together caused the "money issue" & the "unpaid salaries" back during the Giro.........
