Note also that if you are looking at the 2023-25 points on Firstcycling.com then those numbers are not 100% accurate. They are based on the results posted for the various races and calculated by their own system. As such it does not include points deductions made by UCI as penalties for individual infractions.

I think they will be able to keep going. They are racing every little race that will allow them to start it seems like and together with how they are running races I see no reason why they wouldn't smash the points from previous seasons. It's not like they really need to reach the level of UAE to stay up. They just need to perform like a top 6-10 WT team or something along those lines.

Yeah but now you’ll have more races more people riding and I think they won’t be able to reduce the gap as much every month. I can be wrong of course

Astana is also sending Henok to Rwanda. That's very easy points for him normally (150+ 2 years ago there). And Federov and Kuzmin should be able to get a "free" big amount of points on Sunday in Asian Champs. I expect the usual 3 guys in top 10 performance in Murcia too.

But of course in WT races it will be harder, but it's not like Cofidis or DSM will score big there probably. Cofidis is limited due to not having a devo team. They already have removed Mucia from their schedule to not having enough riders. Astana on the other hands will use their devo team basically only for riding the most amount of races they can.

Intermarché should probably also start scoring at some point, cause they've had a bad start so far. I hope for them Girmay doesn't get injured or they might actually have a problem.

Astana has about 8 months to overturn a 4000 point gap. That's beating Cofidis by this same margin every month of the year. They'll need 13/14k minimum to pass Cofidis.

Agree. Won't happen. Imo they will even struggle to beat cofidis outright this season. Cofidis is actually quite good at this stupid game whenever they want to and just looking at H2H rider vs rider on the two teams are quite close in imo. Someone like Higuita is a big wild card though. Could be the best of them all or could gather the same points as Izaguire or could be on the "pointless" level of Buchmann points wise.

Who cares anyway about WT status. As long as you can be safely among the two best PRT teams you can pick and choose on all WT events. Arguably even better position if you can sell/explain the technicality to sponsors.

They must beat Uno-X or Tudor and all is good (I assume Arkea and Q36.5 is nowhere this year)

I think its good for cofidis. Tour de la provence was clear after yesterday, that they will not score a bunch of points there. Figueira championships they sure hoped for more, but there were other good riders there. Murcia was perfect for them, although coquard could have been in the mix himself as well. Kanters second place surely was great for Astana, but having a rider from cofidis in front is really not what they hoped then, so something like place 5 and 6 would have been better. Asian championships were disappointing in my opinion, as fedorov was a big favorite there and didn't even score a point, although having maybe the strongest squad to support him. Kuzmins 90 points were good, but not enough to compensate.

Looking at the now very little difference between cofidis and picnic post nl, i wonder whether they get in a dangerious position too

Asian championships were disappointing in my opinion, as fedorov was a big favorite there and didn't even score a point, although having maybe the strongest squad to support him. Kuzmins 90 points were good, but not enough to compensate.

Sure Fedorov was overall by far the best rider in that race, but I don't see him as a climber and that race finished on a 4km 9% climb or something. Sure most of these guys are random Asian amateurs but Fedorov probably weighs like 25-30kg more than some of them.

Also apparently he attacked before the climb for some reason.

After yesterdays win and todays result astana is now 3600 points behind. Tomorrow could close the gap rapidly. Sure, teuns will get some points in portugal (maybe around 50), but if astana keeps their actual positions in france and UAE, they will score around 270 points combined (with mulubrhan starting in rwanda tomorrow)

Yes. Points always count for the team a rider's registered to, no matter what team he's riding for.

I guess that's what happens when you are able to really motivate riders. They go for each point instead of only for the wins, while also taking more risk to try and win.

Your remark make me think about guys like Cavendish and Ewan who stopped sprinting when they cannot win (and thus frustrating many cycling pools).

This is probably true but it's not just in pro ranks for a fluffy finish!! Astana is a great example of new mindset, everything counts!! Like the song!! A few points here and there can collectively be significant.
