Realistically the top 18 are locked given the fragility of Arkea, the interesting battle will be between Tudor, Uno-X, Astana and Q36.5 for the auto wildcards to all events. It'll be interesting to see if any of them travel out to Australia for me, given only the two Suisse sides have an Aussie on their roster.

Q36.5 and Tudor are too far.
Q are sitting on ~7000 points and assuming that ~22000 points will be enough for top 20, there's no way they win 15k points in a single season.
Tudor are also 7000 points behind Uno-x. Hirschi would need to surpass his previous season and Alaphilippe would need to be back to his peak for Tudor to be even have a chance to cut that gap.

Its only Total, Uno-x and Astana fighting for 2 places actually (assuming Arkea folds).

This is just not how it works. 2025 ranking decides wildcards, not the 3y ranking.

Wildcards are based on year on year results, not the triennium rankings.

It's a good start for sure. I don't think they can stay up but they should be focusing on the Lotto strategy of the past few years, make sure to get the auto wildcards for all WT events.

Aaron Gate 2nd at CEGORR for 250 points, Astana are farming points like their lives depend on it!
Good sprint. Hope to see him at either the Giro or Tour.

Astana need to carry this throughout the season though. Gonna be interesting to see how they go once the classics start, they don't have anyone outstanding for those

He still has to score another 500 points to equal last season, but this is a fine start.
Yeah, CEGORR can be a weird race sometimes. Mayrhofer won it in 2023 and that was more than half of his entire point tally for that year. But good for Gate to be able to prove that he can score against a stronger field than who he raced against for most of his career.

He'll be the favourite for their Nats too next week you'd think

Parcours REALLY suits him (bit less hard than last year), but he has to fight against some duo's, mainly FFB and Pithie, they are definitely the favorites. You also have Bennett and Strong and the less strong duo of Thompson and Currie. Gate will have to be really strong or a bit lucky to win it, but yes he will get a good amount of points. A guaranteed top 3 in the TT too.

I expected a very strong Astana at the beginning of the season, but they got more points than I thought they were gonna get. More than 800 already. 3rd in the UCI ranking this year (Movistar is 2nd btw, their pretty insane season start is going under the radar). They really are starting like Arkea/Intermarché 2022. The question is, will they fade like those teams did in 2022. Next weeks it will be harder, they will have to rely on Gate, Higuita and their Kazaks to get (relatively easy) points in Championships. In Oman with Ulissi and in Murcia with their other hill specialist they could do good tho, but it won't be as easy anymore.

Yeah I saw that. Stewart will be thereabouts if he can stay with them but his form has been terrible.

I still think they're too far behind 18th to stay up, they basically need 15k this season to do so.

Astana already closed 500 point of the 5000 point gap to Cofidis they had before the season. And that's with Cofidis overperforming with Coquard and Ferron and Bettiol being on holiday in kit in Australia.

With the new WT participation rules in mind, it will be even better to have automatic wild cards rather than being a WT team. The sponsors may have different views though.
a wildcard PRO team, should attend each WT race, the same as WT team does. if it can't do it, then the wildcard should be revoked, and passed to other team.

I wouldn't say Cofidis overperformed. Ferron sure (even tho he's had good results in that race before), but Coquard in Australia isn't a surprise (and everyone expected him to score more in Cadel Evans) and especially Aranburu failed. But sure, it doesn't seem impossible anymore. I expected a good Astana, but sure it's even better. Let's see if they can keep going like this.

Astana sticking with 1.1 races I see - Muscat Classic on the 7th.

Big question is what will happen with Lotto if they can not get more sponsorship.

PRO teams have to closely choose their races to get more points. it would be stupid to force them to do all the races as if they were a WT team. also skipping some races allows other lower PRO teams to get invitations
