Any even without Scaroni they have a stacked team for Milano-Torino. Fortunato, Tejada, Ulissi, compared to what most of the other teams are bringing that's really strong.

They are about to score 400 points there. God, what happened to Milano Torino, completely ruined.

Well depending on UAE's team I guess.

Haha, I would think/hope there's much more to it
No I think the XDS sponsorship is genuinely at risk if they don't get WT, so a lot of it is just financial jeopardy. I'm sure they better performing guys can get contracts elsewhere, but it is much easier for them if they can hold onto XDS and stay at the team, especially as the higher investment will improve their performances a bit.

200 points for DSM too of course. Intermarché once again nothing out of 2 .Pro races. They still have a good gap of course and if Girmay just perform there won't be a problem, but it's still scary for them.

Bad luck for astana today. The best rider not able to start in milano torino and no points in belgium because both riders get affected by the crash

The article is behind a paywall so won't put everything here, but a few telling tidbits :
  • A coach who had been with the team for 17 years realised he was being fired when he asked why he hadn't gotten a plane ticket for the preseason training camp.
  • Vasseur took away snacks from his riders as a punishment early last year after their winless start to the season.
  • Vasseur shares screenshots of races top 10s/breakaway groups where Cofidis riders are absent with laughing smileys in team group chats.
  • Early last season the riders complained about the new kits they had gotten, apparently they weren't at the right size and were like sponges in the rain, but Vasseur told them "the riders have the kits they deserve".
  • Race schedules for riders often change on a whim. According to the article Benjamin Thomas was not scheduled for any race for multiple weeks after what was perceived as bad early season results last year.
  • Riders are afraid of telling Vasseur what races they want to race in the end-of-season briefing becauce they fear he might send them to the opposite races just to be a contrarian.
  • Bryan Coquard almost quit pro cycling last April because of the toxic team environment and what he perceives as a lack of a consistently good leadout.

Must be said Astana has been quite lucky with crashes and ailments so far.
The only rider affected by illness has been Ulissi, but I guess he'll come good at some point and score consistently like he always does.
Bettiol has also been underperforming but that's down to being Bettiol, not to injuries or illness afaik.

I agree that Astana definitely doesnt have to complain about bad luck, but Bettiol is coming back from sickness and had a badly timed mech in Strade, Poels was sick, Kanter broke his finger, Malucelli had a bad crash, Lopez same.

But they'e had some luck too in a lot of races so like i said, they can't blame anything on bad luck no.

Fair about the others.
Bettiol is always coming back from sickness though.

WTF!? I knew Vasseur was a clown but this is next level. My life long COFIDIS support since I first saw Moncoutie win a stage at the TDF is almost coming to an end.

they are lucky Cofidis re-upped the backing until 2028 and they are a Vuelta sponsor too (obvs with Arkea/Total(?) gone they'll get the 2026 TDF wild card if they get relegated)

Cees Bol has a fracture in his hand after yesterdays crash. This improves the chance for cofidis for gaining more points on astana during the upcoming classics, starting today

They're straight up embarrassing this season.
