Listen, as a Belgian and therefore world expert on fries.

You haven't truly enjoyed potatoes until you fry them in goose fat and eat them with mayonnaise from Devos-Lemmens.
(Listen Americans, I know you guys consider mayo a "spread' but you're wrong. Mayonnaise is god's gift to the world!)

Proper Belgians make their mayo from scratch :p

HELL YES to frying them in goose fat - duck fat works too, so does clarified unsalted Lurpak butter!

But the topic here was how to avoid peeling them - and still enjoy them ;)

(actually the topic was Uno-X - but I digress...)

See my preceding post about the automatic potato peeler. First thing I bought when I moved out of my parents home.

Unfortunately, Johannes Kulset has crashed during training and broken a few bones in his face and will now return to Oslo to see a specialist.

At the same time it's reported that Tobias Halland Johannesen is back in training after having trouble with a knee after crashing during LBL. The hope is that he will be able to get fit and find form ahead of the Tour. He was originally meant to be riding Tour of Norway which starts today but that was ruled out a few weeks ago already.

The team for the Tour is announced:

Magnus Cort
Alexander Kristoff,
Søren Wærenskjold
Jonas Abrahamsen
Rasmus Tiller
Tobias Halland Johannessen
Johannes Kulset
Odd Christian Eiking

This means that Andreas Leknesund is left out after failing to show good form in the mountains all year.

Kulset will be one of the youngest riders in this years Tour.
The Søren guy just won Baloise Belgium Tour not a to bad team i think they will be offensive in breaks.

Thor Hushovd has decided to not renew the contract with Kurt Asle Arvesen as Head of Sports after this season.
Norwegian cycling twitter seems very surprised and upset about this decision and it's not 100% clear what is behind this decision. The most concrete thing is that Arvesen got told that they "pull in different directions".

Earlier it was also confirmed that one of the coaches, Jesper Mörköv will go to Visma. Quite some changes to come in the team.
Strange for sure given how they have been performing so well, but Uno-x have been changing skin a lot lately imo. Must be Hushovd who pushes the many changes.

I think Arvesen favoured a more steady progression and a strong Norwegian base to develop talents from, while Hushovd have made moves to free up money for signings that can get them to World tour level. The development team getting shut down fits this for instance. Maybe Kurt was also a bit hesitant towards the team splashing cash to go WT asap? If Hushovd can do many of the things Arvesen was doing it may save them some salary. Hard to judge from afar.

If this is the sticking point between them then it's hard to blame Hushovd. Taking things slow and steady to develop talent etc. is very expensive when dealing with a sponsored team. Especially when they are actively looking to add more sponsors. You can't really go to a company and say, give us money now for 5 years and then we'll have developed the riders that will give your brand exposure. Sponsors want more direct returns on their investments so winning races and getting exposure in the biggest races there are is important.

Development team shutting, reducing sponsorship for national devo races and national junior squad.

The steps taken to get to WT as soon as possible seem to have the side effect if hollowing out the national cycling ecosystem downstream. This is Thor pissing in his own trousers to warm himself.
I agree that it is probably bad for norwegian cycling as a whole, but Hushovd is not to blame for Norway not managing to send a a team to l'avenir and races being pulled. Bad for dev for sure.

His task is to make Uno-X be a viable team for sponsors to invest in. He thinks this requires them to go world tour (he is probably correct) and need to evaluate all acitvities (and resources) that does not align with this goal in the short term. Why have a dev team and invest in scandinavian cycling infrastructure if all the big boys (visma etc) snap your biggest talents (staune mittet, hagenes, nordhagen, Oern-Kristoff)?

I think the situation Hushovd faces is this: It is just super expensive to run a cycling team and sponsors have all the right in the world to ask questions about why the money is not pooled towards what gives them the most exposure (top preformances in the biggest races). Signing big riders - winning big races - and going world tour needs to be the priority.

Completely agree. Making tough priorities that maximises the sponsors exposure is literally his job. Developing scandinavian cycling is a side quest at best, or more likely a nice side effect of the team doing well. I think the changes he made have followed the objective of allocating all the resources towards having the best chance of winning the biggest races in the short term. Correct strategy given the demands of his position imo. Strange to see Arvesen sacked still. My impression was that he was really good at team building. Surely he could have adapted to a more aggressive strategy?
