So will Richie Porte and Baulke Mollema be Nibali doms next year ...not bad if so
What should happen: this year's tour is last chance saloon for Richie. If he fails, then back to dom duties.
What will happen: Nibs gets the giro, Richie gets the tour
What should happen. Nibs get whatever he wants

Porte gets the short stage races

Mollema gets the Tour with a bunch of freeriders/stagehunters cause Nibali doesn't want it and Porte shouldn't get it.

With Etna next year it’s possible he goes to the giro, but I want him to be in topshape in Liege. I still hope he doesn’t go to Trek, don’t like that team, it’s not a ‘team’ at all. He finally had a good support this Giro from Bahrein.

Nibali will choose his GT next year based on how he decides to prepare for OG and WCRR. It will probably be Giro first for GC and then I have no idea.

I'm just happy Tonio found a team. Now onto the most important question: will he sacrifice his own ambitions for Richie come Willunga time?

You dont have Nibali and Porte in the same team and then decide to bring Bauke Mollema to the Tour as the leader.. well, at least it very much depends on Porte this year. If he just gets spanked by Ineos fair and square and is like the 6th-8th best climber, then yeah, maybe.

The problem with Nibali at Trek without Mollema or/and Porte as Doms means who does he have to ride for him at the Giro

No matter what people on here say Caruso & Pozzo are very good doms to have and to not have them as Trek is a massive handicap to any GC riding. Porte and Mollema are better climbers (well just about and if Richie doesn't crash) but not necessarily better Doms
I hope Nibali has thought this through...maybe next year he will concentrate on classics ?? Wining the Giro without a strong team is not going to happen

Next year there are Olympics and Worlds on suitable routes, riding the Giro means ditching one of thats considering that Nibali always says that he needs the Tour to be ready for Olympics and the Vuelta to be ready for Worlds.

Ciccone, Conci and Brambilla (if he'll resign) would be good riders to support Nibali and the young ones could only profit from riding with him.

But not good enough I fear ...He needs a top climber or 2

Anyway its probably all immaterial as the way INEOS are going they will win every GT and no one else will get a look in. Maybe the Worlds & Olympics are better bets

Could do Liegi, Tour prep (or part of it) for OG, Vuelta for GC (or not) + Worlds + Lombardia.
Giro for GC and OG seems unlikely tbh.

I would like that! But don’t know if it’s possible to quit the Tour after 2 weeks, don’t think the team would love that.

Just spend 15 minutes in the vicinity of Kelderman, take a soft tumble in the grass and everyone will believe a femur, both collarbones and 9 ribs are broken.

Depends on if Porte demands full team support, cause Mollema doesn't. He was asked about that and he explicitly said how happy he was with the work that was done for him all the while they were also hunting stages.

Now a loooot is gonna depend on the schedule Nibali demands with the eye on the Olympics and the Worlds.

Im sure, if Nibali signs for Trek, that they will bring a couple of riders to support him. Brambilla, Ciccone and Conci is a good start though.

At least one of Mollema and Porte is most likely leaving also.

Ciccone should probably get some chances to ride for himself next year also, but maybe not in GTs just yet.

He still has it, it would be a wasted year, he'll be 36 next year, if he doesn't give it a go again for real in a GT. Maybe they can pull a Carapaz/Landa number on Skineos next year in Tdf with LRP as Landani.

So Trek has become the team where legends finish their careers .......

Nibs is at a stage of his professional career where he's simply looking to capitalize on his impressive Palmares while he fades away in glory. I would Love Nibs to go full gas on some classics like RVV, Liege & AGR while concentrate on 1 week races - then go to a GT of his choosing without any GC ambitions but rather go for the spectacle......

the main factor is what's going to happen with Porte & Mollema once Vincenzo arrives ....

It's been the team's fate since the days of RetirementShack, hasn't it?
Can't see problems within their roster. Some years ago probably, but not at this point.

I have typed this many times over the years, but it seems that I am alone in this thinking: if your legs are good and you don't have a mishap (flat, mechanical, crash, road side idiots...) you don't need friendly wheels to follow, just follow the other GC guys/teams. Obviously the big hole in that is if you do have a mishap, and you don't have a least one team mate to help you out, you might be screwed. That being said, TREK should be able to put together a solid Giro team for VN. Port's best days were winning week-long stage races and being a dom in GTs so he should go back to that.

I like this move overall: good for VN and good for TREK.
