Just rewatched the stage. Vintage Nibali on display here. Really cool to see. After Nibali attacked the gap was not that big, and Bardet tried to bridge across. He closed the gap halfway but Nibali was simply too strong, he could never close the last 5 or 10 seconds.

Shark is ready to crush it in Lombardy.

Last year was weird Covid season and this year he broke his wrist less than a month before the Giro, I think we are only now seeing what Nibali is capable of post lockdown. He won't be as good as 2019 but much better than anything from August 2020 onwards.

Tomorrow, Tre Valli Varesine. A reminder from Varese in 2017, one of the three races during the fall Italian classics with a magic Nibali. A few days before he set the record time for San Luca while casually protecting his teammate Visconti who was up the road to win the race. Then here he sprints for the win with Geniez and Pinot while dropping Ulissi.



The rest is history, second Lombardia in the bag.

So, how did we like his performance today? Quite active but missed Pog's and Cosnefroy's move - not that it would have been closer to the podium, and he finished just behind anyway.

Big problem for a good Lombardia result is that despite his resurgence, Pog, Rog and Evenepoel among others all seem to be either in spectacular form or on the rise. Even Tibopino showed some legs at Bernocchi.

I'm expecting him to play a role and attack somewhere in the race, hopefully in the final, but I don't necessarily see him competing for the win.

Realistically is not a proper way to think in this thread. We are living in a different dimension, the dimension of the bag. And it's quite a big one this time, waiting to be picked up in Bergamo. He will be like Colbrelli in Roubaix, glued to Remco's wheel like it's VdP in a two man raid across Lombardia. Then the final sprint and the glory. It is inevitable that another Italian will win this last monument and it won't be Moscon.

Another training ride today, Lombardia will be a different kind of race. Less than a week ago he put over 35sec into Valverde on a longer climb, so I'm tranquillo.

Why Tiberi and not Antonio? And why not Gianluca?

Shame that Giulio Ciccone is injured other wise they could repeat their TTT for 4th 5th and 6th from last year.

You are letting us down. He was working for the main brother in both Lombardias with Bahrain 2017-18 until Sormano. I remember, don't know which of the two, he was pulling the peloton on Ghisallo. Anyway, he was good in Sicily, why not select him here?
