I don't think he will even get in the top20. By the way I can't think of a rider who won the LBL and then the tour in the last 20 years. Actually we must probably go back to Merckx for that kind of performance, unless I forgot someone.

In the same year? Ya I can't think of anyone recently. Andy was the closest I guess... IMO Nibbes has the potential if he really focused on it.

EDIT: OOOPPPS he won the Giro that year but not le Tour! He never won both LBL and Tour in the same year. But won LBL 2xs and Tour of course 5xs.

Indeed he did.

I'd love to see Nibali win LBL, I think he is capable of doing it. But I'd certainly not put money on him winning the Tour the same year he wins LBL.

Confirmed that Nibali won't ride Il Giro.Very good for Le Tour,not so good seeing it from the Giro perspective which has a great route but only Contador on the start from the big 4.

Of course he won't- Aru is the man for Il Giro, while Nibbs only has his soul & mind towards Le Tour & Vuelta double.

and prior to all that is the elusive L-B-L title

Indeed. Bad luck with Rosa mechanical and negative Martin in the break otherwise the adventure would've last longer. LBL will be very interesting.

Yep, only rider who did everything he could to go from afar. A shame the large group of other riders in the same situation as him regarding the finish don't do the same.

Everybody in the world (except for Nibali) knew that break was never going to make it to the end. His season has been so lackluster thus far this season so I can understand the excitement but I don't think he really showed that he's on form yet.

He has been unlucky. De Rosa fell alongside with Caruso so he lost an useful mate and BMC lost the only reason they were not helping Movistar to chase the breakaway.

Thank god Nibali is attacking in the Ardennes again. Really hope he wins one with an early attack.

I mean yea nibali did an attack, gj but his form still seems way off. I don't think a really good nibali would have gone that early with these guys.

Nibali has always taken AGR as a training ride. I was expecting him to take an invisible 50th place in the best case scenario. The fact that he tried to actually race it means that either he feels unexpectedly strong (that is, he tried to go for it, as he was too enthusiastic) or he feels really unsure about his shape (that is, he just wanted to make an over-the-threshold test).
I wish it was the former, but I'm more convinced of the latter.

No matter his form I think it'd be best for him to attack the moment he did. Better buy a lottery ticket and hope you will win than do nothing and end nowhere.

The problem with his attack was that there was no preparation. You need to thin out the pack a bit for that kind of thing to work.

Still though, yeah, what he did was much better than waiting for the Cauberg and getting a top 20.
