2013. It had 12 uphill finishes, but only few of them were the 10 minute Murito's where he loses the most. And it had some asbolute killer stage designs as well. And it had apocalyptic weather. And it didn't have Froome.

How did he not win that?

Just a few reasons: nobody took Hornerito seriously and when they did they surely didn't think he'll last for three weeks at 41, he was more concerned watching Purito and Valverde until it was late, he did the TT with his whole face swollen, he had one bad day, Hornerito had none and maybe instead of five attacks on Angliru he should've tried one that could stick.

Nibali had a number of average days in that Vuelta. Naturally the apocalyptic one was where he dropped Horner in the sprint uphill.

Well, tomorrow nobody can hide their true legs I guess, there's some proper climbing to do.
Let's see what happens.

Edit: the attack uphill didn't look that bad, nothing major was just to prepare the descent I guess. Plus of course wasn't a particularly hard climb where to easily make the difference.

I agree. Thought that the attack was fine, for a second I thought it was ending in disaster when it looked like it might get immediately eaten but he was able to keep up enough sustained power to make it into something and that sustained effort had me feeling pretty good

Race isn`t over...without the wind he could have won the stage. Attack wasn`t explosive but for the first time this year he was able to continue strong after creating a gap. Pelizotti was great as well...basically buried Chavez and Aru.

Now that felt good to me.

Not only did he attack early but he had the energy to go again and when he did he really sustained the effort tremendously well.

If he continues to grow (or hold his form comparative to others might be a better way of putting it) this race is not over

In the windiest part of the last ramp Nibali was alone while the rest of the contenders were behind him in a group of at least 5 guys.

Alright, this was a treat for us Nibbleholics. Great effort by Nibbles. :)

IF Froome starts feeling TDF in his legs then a victory here is achievable.

Lopez was alone in chasing and then he has attack going alone
The truth is none could able to follow him.
Perhaps froome could have done something more but i think he was suffering the bad weather today.
This does not mean that nibali isn't strong and consistent. And he can still improve

I don't think it was the weather, it hadn't rained for basically two hours and it wasn't that cold, only 10 degrees. It was just an off day I reckon.

He rode well and Froome looked weak a couple of times. There is hope that Froome will tire and Vincenzo will continue riding strongly. This race is not over!

Or condition is going a bit down after the Tour, which should be happening.
Very pleased with Vincenzo ride today, hope he keeps trying and test Froome.

I agree that Lopez was great today and probably would have won anyway but he attacked closer to the finish were the wind lessened. Froome did what he had to do and could have followed Nibali earlier but when he took the lead Nibali was able to follow him. If Froome gets a little worse or Nibali a little better there might be a chance.

Anyway be careful guys.
The last week only presents the angliru as a fit (virtually) long climb. First there are the ITT and two muritos.
So I'm convinced that his chances are that he will play all of them on sierra nevada

Stage 16 and stage 17 will be crucial. That time trial and that final murito are just perfect to froome

The bad point is only pne who is Froome's challenger now
The good point is it's Nibali who is the challenger, so you know he will try everything.

Incredible how Kelderman (I think) chose to offer those behind him shelter. I just don't understand stuff like this.
