I believe a podium was more than possible to be achieved. Vincenzo was clearly stronger than Roglic and Froome was struggling big time in the Pyrenees (had Bernal not been there, he would have lost loads of time). But that idiot on Alpe crushed his hopes for the rest of the season.

Rumors about signing with Trek from https://www.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20190314_04256300?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=dlvr&utm_campaign=twitterfeed

Vincenzo Nibali is on its way to relocate to Trek-Segafredo after this season. Nibali has not been able to deal with certain staff members and some rules with his current team, Bahrain-Merida. A break after this season seems inevitable. The Italian coffee brand Segafredo wants to keep Nibali happy despite its 34 years.

The only stumbling block for the Italian signboard seems to be its current season. Nibali did not start very well in 2019 and will have to reach at least top five in the Giro if he wants to be able to justify his wage demands.

Trek, where legends and Porte go for their final goodbye Giro.

Was it Giggles that said Nibbles would be the most Trek signing ever?

Above my expectations today. Seemed to get better as the race went on.

Another 40 km and he could of win it... For the Giro he is on track or is it trek? At the end of today's stage:

I'm not a mindreader. He might be thinking about some surprise PR win.

Might even get a top ten!
I guess after an anonymous MSR it will be long altitude, then Trentino, easy win in Liege, showboat 3rd Giro.
Heard it here first !

Looked pretty decent today, until he didn't. Did he break completely or just give up in the last lap?

He even attacked at some point, though on flattish/downhill terrain. He was dropped from the select group of riders who were chasing the leaders of the stage on one of the last walls and it was pretty much over for anything else at that point. As usual he can't cope with accelerations at this stage in his preparation, he said it yesterday that "this is the suffering I need". It's almost the same story as in the last years with the exception that this time the team forced the Tour on him after the Giro so the gradual prep is even more "gradual" which means he'll be mostly crap until May.

Yeah, I had a small hope for LBL, but with long altitude and thenTrentino ending just 2 days before, I guess that ain't gonna happen.
I wonder what he'll do in the autumn, probably something like 2015 if he isn't completely spent after the double.

True enough, I guess he'll help out at the Worlds as well (and you never know), unless he really doesn't want to go.

Who is the designated leader maybe? Has to be Moscon right?

Colbrelli, Viviani, Moscon is my guess.
Circuit isn't as easy as it first looks imho, and bad weather would make it hell for sure.

I would add Trentin

Absolutely, forgot him somehow.
Pretty sure Cassani himself mentioned those 3 names already, in some interview when the course came out.
I think a tactical move could work, or maybe a smallish group with strong nations, who knows.
Again, bad weather would make it a way more selective race.

If they bring Viviani I'm gonna seriously consider applying for that job.
Cassani has already said multiple times that Viviani will be the leader.
Anyway is not a big problem, at the first action will be gone and other will step up like at EC.

I'm a little worried, Vincenzo was better today than I expected, hope Slongo gets it right and the peak will be in May rather than in LBL. By the way, the fastest Poggio ascent today a few seconds slower than Fondriest Jalabert during the good ol days of 1995 (courtesy @faustocoppi60)

Tbh i'd love for him to peak at Liege rather than in May, especially with the new course

If he wins then yes but it would be very hard. Though by the way he sprinted today, I'm not too sure...
