Worst case scenario for Nibali is that it keeps snowing hard and the Gavia is canceled. Now he needs to pray for good weather.

There are other risky passages before Gavia as well, but let's hope no stage gets cancelled, obviously.

HIs time loss to Rogla was completely expected. So that's fair enough.

But he is a huge winner since Lopez, Landa and especially Yates lost a bunch of time. That obviously means that his big rivals are further back, but maybe more importantly, that they would want to use all the possibilities to put pressure on Rogla. And in the end Nibali could very well benefit from that effort. So with that in mind, it really was a great result.

In order to win a GT everything must fall into place. Actually I considered Yates more dangerous than Roglic in the long run. We all know that Roglic is on fire from the beginning of the year but until now he just did what he was supposed to do, win two TTs tailor made for him.

Until now Nibali was defending and we enter the part of the race where the main stages are tailor made for him. Roglic hasn't shown anything remotely close to what Nibali is capable of in 200km+ multi high mountain stages plus he will be alone very soon. Of course, anything is possible but right now Vincenzo has a good chance to realistically fight for the win.

I agree, Nibali is up to the task put in front of him . Many miles with many climbs await his arrival. There is plenty of bite left in The Shark, he can win this bike race!

Hopefully if he does, next year he focuses on one day races and racks up at least a couple more monuments.

From the beginning of the race, it has been clear to me that Roglic will win if he can keep the form he had coming into the race. That hasn’t changed. What has changed is that Nibali is now clearly in the best position of all the other riders to take advantage of any problems that Roglic has. I don’t think Nibali could have asked to be in a better position at this point in the race.

Stuff happens.

He is well positioned, and it only takes one small mistake, and Roglic may be out.

Vincenzo already won the TdF mostly because of the misfortunes of Froome and Contador, so he is no stranger to this situation where he needs to wait for his chance patiently.

Some of the guys who shipped minutes today may well try something, but with 20 kilometres of flat to the finish the groups must be shredded to pieces on the climb. Not sure who will want to do it with the stages coming up next.

Now everyone knows the form is there. Let's just hope that the weather will be good enough and Gavia won't be canceled.

Looking very good so far, hopefully he puts on a show in those mountains starting next Friday.

Haven't felt this optimistic about Nibali at this stage of a gt in a very long time. Now that I think of it, the last time must have been in 2014. Of course everything so far could as well be misleading as we haven't had a proper uphill test but the signs are surely good. Roglic will be hard to crack but I think Nibali will give him a hard time.

Don't think so, the stage really doesn't suit him. But with gaps that big someone else might try so we could get the first proper test of strength a day earlier than expected.
